30th Sunday in Ordinary Time
Nicely done last week! It was fun pulling out Sing Praise to God and City of God again. The GC version of I Will Choose Christ is working really well too! I also had some folks comment that they enjoyed the variety of styles :-). Here's the audio.
A quick reminder that Fall Time & Talent is this weekend after all Masses. Please keep an eye out for people we can recruit! It would be wonderful to pull in some new singers and/or instrumentalists ahead of Christmas & Easter! If you're able to stick around after Mass, you're welcome to help me man the Prayer & Worship table too :-).
The choir leads talked about Thanksgiving Eve last week. Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, November 25th @ 6 PM. Both Barb P. and Joanne will be traveling, so we'll cover this one. Bev & I would love some help, so please to come out if you're able! Music will be in the November plan.
I also chatted with Amy (Director of Faith Formation) about the December 19th Christmas Pageant. It sounds like there will be some changes this year to simplify the program. Music may become optional, but I'd still like us to participate if there's a need (Amy is definitely open to this). Stay tuned!
Finally, for Christmas Masses, I'm going to touch base with the choir leads this week about the schedule and coverage. Amy & Joanne are working out details for the Children's Mass, but nothing else has been confirmed yet. Hopefully more on that soon!
I think that's all. See you Saturday!
(All Mass Parts, except the Gospel Acclamation, are from Mass of Creation, including the Gloria, Holy, Eucharistic Acclamation 'B' (When We Eat This Bread), Doxology & Lamb of God)
Out: Karen, Ally
Entrance:
SS #146 – What Is Our Service to Be (Crandal)
Materials (audio & sheet music)
**Please take a look if unfamiliar! We've only done this a few times before.
Note that verses 1 & 2 share the same melody; verse 3 is completely different, while verse 4 is a repeat of verse 1. If anyone wants to give it a shot, there's a lower harmony on 1, 2 & 4 as well.
We'll plan to sing the whole thing, going to the Coda after the last verse.**
(Glory to God)
Responsorial Ps (Frank):
GC3 #1179 – Ps 18 – I Love You Lord, My Strength (Guimont)
Materials (audio & sheet music)
**This is another Guimont Psalm, so I'll bring copies of the music from the Lectionary Psalms book (GC only includes the refrain and no verses).**
Acclamation (Jake):
SS #021 (Mass of a Joyful Heart) (vs 1) (Canedo)
Preparation:
GC3 #706 – Where Charity and Love Prevail (Westerndorf)
Materials (audio & sheet music)
**The intro will simply be the opening chord. I've love to do this with light accompaniment too! We'll also need to be careful about phrasing and tempo -- that way, it's together and doesn't drag.
There are no written voice parts, but feel free to improv on the verses! We may need to repeat verses or add an instrumental to fill time.**
(Mass Parts)
Communion:
SS #167 – We Come Today (Friedman)
Materials (audio & sheet music)
**It's been a while! Since this has a long intro, long refrain and short verses, let's start with an instrumental (do you all remember the old days of improv'ing instrumentals on this one? Fun times!).
On the verses, please be careful of the rhythms -- it's easy for them to become too rigid! As usual, we can repeat verses if needed.**
Closing:
GC3 #771 – Go in Peace, Go in Love (Bringle) [NEW]
Materials (audio & sheet music)
**We've been taking a look at this the past couple of weeks. The whole thing is repeated twice, followed by the final ending. Ideally, the second time, it would be great to include the high descant (either sung or played). Of course, if we need a bit more, we could add a third repeat before the final ending.**
