15th Sunday in Ordinary Time
Nicely done last week! It was great to be so well-staffed on a holiday weekend :-). The harmonies on Canticle of the Turning, Come to Me, O Weary Traveler and America the Beautiful sounded lovely (especially the a cappela bits). Canticle, Weary Traveler and Come to the Lord worked really well for the themes too! Here's the audio.
Special thanks to Maureen (& Chip) for picking up Fr. Aubin at the airport! He was very friendly, fun to work with and had some nice comments about us. I also appreciate the help with neatening up a few things in the Sanctuary! Since we had time, it was a good chance to do that!
A reminder that we have another visiting priest this week -- Fr. Joshi from St. John's. We've worked with him before, but let's still touch base on logistics. I'll once again unlock the building around 3 PM and lock by 7 PM. Father Jozef, Dcn. Jack and our other pilgrims will be back on 07/13.
Ben brought up a good point about pronunciation on the Alleluia: 'A-leh-lu-ia' versus 'A-lay-lu-ia'. The former is correct Latin! If we could all sing it the same way, that would be great :-).
Looking ahead to next week (07/18), there are a few less-common songs on the board. We may touch on these Saturday if there's time. Please take a look before then!
- GC3 #738 - The Reign of God
- A few of us sang this during the Pandemic, but I don't believe we've done it as a group. It's a traditional Irish tune (McKee) adapted into a Spiritual. It's written in four parts, so I'll try to find practice tracks.
- SS #164 (GC3 #868) - Come to the Feast
- We've only done this a few times. It's in both books, but the accompaniment is different (we can pick which works better). The tricky part is getting the Spanish 'feel' right! We'll sing the English refrain & verses.
- Mission Song: We Are the People
- Most of you are familiar with this, but if not, it's in the Killoren books in the cabinet. We have piano & guitar scores too. Since the Parish Picnic is that Sunday (07/19), it seemed appropriate!
Finally, I'm going to start working on August music shortly (how are we half-way through the Summer already?!). If there are any weekends you're out, please let me know for planning!
I think that's it. Stay dry and have a great week!
(All Mass Parts, except the Gospel Acclamation, are from Mass of Creation, including the Gloria, Holy, Eucharistic Acclamation 'B' (When We Eat This Bread), Doxology & Lamb of God)
Out:
Entrance:
SS #134 (GC3 #582) - Rain Down (Cortez)
Materials (audio & sheet music)
**Given all the rain, this one seems like a good choice for the week :-). Let's plan for at least a couple of verses. If interested, there are also separate choir parts in the folder.**
(Glory to God)
Responsorial Ps (Frank):
GC3 #1134 - Ps 65 - The Seed that Falls on Good Ground (Guimont)
Materials (audio & sheet music)
**We haven't sung this Guimont Psalm before, so please take a look at the refrain. The rhythm is slightly more complex than some of the others.
Just as a heads up, I now have access to the Lectionary Psalms book with the full Guimont scores, so that should make it easier to pull music next time!**
Acclamation (Lisa):
SS #021 (Mass of a Joyful Heart) (vs 1) (Angrisano)
Preparation:
SS #196 (GC3 #651) - Open My Eyes (Manibusan)
Materials (audio & sheet music)
**We'll aim for all four verses. Don't forget that verses 1 and 2 are sung back-to-back, with the Bridge sung after verses 2 and 3. We'll also need to make sure that we're singing the rhythms on the Bridge the same way :-). If we need more time, we can repeat verses or add an instrumental.**
(Mass Parts)
Communion:
GC3 #783 - Unless a Grain of Wheat (Farrell)
Materials (audio & sheet music)
**With six verses, let's take some time to build this up a bit. I'm thinking we'll begin with an instrumental at a slower tempo, before adding in voices and bringing it up to normal tempo.
Also, keep in mind that verse 2 has a pick-up, while verses 3, 5 & 6 start a beat later than the rest. We'll need to be careful of those verse entrances!**
Closing:
GC3 #835 - They’ll Know We Are Christians (Scholtes)
Materials (audio & sheet music)
