Songs & Updates for Saturday, May 30, 2026

Trinity Sunday

Thanks for a great Pentecost last week! We ended the Easter season on a high note! The harmonies sounded wonderful, and Fr. Jozef's suggestion of adding America the Beautiful as a second Closing song was a nice way to honor both holidays. Here's the audio.

Special thanks to Bev, Frank, Joe, Lisa & Jake for singing at Monica's party, and Joe for helping Jonathan with sound! It was a fun time and there were lots of great comments :-).

A couple of weeks ago, Fr. Jozef made a tweak to when the congregation stands after Offertory. The idea is to match how other churches do this and avoid confusion with visitors.

Everyone will now stand when Fr. Jozef says:
"Pray brothers and sisters, that our sacrifice may be acceptable to God, the almighty father".

Before, we waited to stand until the spoken response:
"May the Lord accept the sacrifice at your hands for the praise and glory of his name, for our good and the good of all his holy Church."

Of course, the choir is already standing from the Offertory song. If we find that folks aren't standing at the right time, we could help set an example by sitting briefly and then standing again.

Summer is almost here! We'll continue meeting as usual, but I'll try to scale back our music for June, July & August (which will be available soon -- stay tuned). Please keep me in-the-loop on weeks you're out so that we can plan accordingly!

Speaking of Summer busyness, don't forget that we have a group calendar! Besides regular Masses & events, it also includes the liturgical seasons, Mass Settings schedule, music selections, and who's here (or absent) each week. If that's helpful, I'd highly recommend subscribing to it by hitting 'Add to Google Calendar' at the bottom. Let me know if you have questions or need help!

Some details went out last week about the Prayer Service for Peace on Thursday, June 11th @ 6 PM. If you can help out, please let Joanne know. As of today, she's still in need of musicians!

Finally, we're looking at switching to Bob Killoren's Mass of the Good Shepherd on June 13/14th. The idea is to go with a simple setting for the Summer. If you haven't sung it before, the music is in the new Killoren books (I'll also upload copies to our folders later this week). There's only basic melody and accompaniment, so lots of flexibility with adding our own parts :-). We'll review it before then.

Enjoy the nice weather, and see you Saturday!

(All Mass Parts, except the Gospel Acclamation, are from Mass of Remembrance, including the Gloria, Holy, Eucharistic Acclamation 'A' (We Proclaim Your Death), Doxology & Lamb of God)

Out: Karen, Maureen, Ginny (tentative)

Entrance:
GC3 #576 - Canticle of the Sun (vs 1-3) (Haugen)

**Since this is long, let's plan to do three verses only. If we could include the harmonies on both the refrain & verses, that would be lovely!

Also, please watch out for rhythms! Besides lots of running eighth notes, there are some dotted eighths and sixteenths in the mix. Let's make sure we're singing these rhythms correctly :-).

Lastly, the final ending has quite a long sustain on '...Lord'. Don't let that catch you off guard!**

(Glory to God)

Responsorial Ps (Frank):
GC3 #1086 - Daniel 3: Glory And Praise For Evermore (Guimont)

**Psalm options for Trinity are a bit limited, so I ended up with another Guimont piece. The full music is not in the book, so please bring a copy if you're able!**

Acclamation (Cris):
SS #005 (GC3 #844) - Alleluia! Give the Glory (vs 3 or 4) (Canedo)

Preparation:
GC3 #610 - Sing of the Lord’s Goodness (Sands)

(Mass Parts)

Communion:
GC3 #945 - I Am the Bread of Life (Toolan)

**Let's kick this off with an instrumental, before starting the singing. Don't forget that the melodies on each verse are a bit different. And if we could include the four-part harmony on the refrain, that would be great too!**

Closing:
SS #202 - Shine, Jesus, Shine (Kendrick)

**Let's plan to sing all three verses. Father Jozef is a fan of this one, and often waits until near the end to process out. If he does go early, perhaps two verses instead.

As usual, let's slow down the tempo slightly on the wordy verses. We'll end it with an a capella refrain.**
