Pentecost Sunday
Thanks to all who came out last week! It was fun pulling out some old classics we haven't done in quite a while, like Sing to the Mountains and You Are Mine! Here's the audio.
I also appreciate everyone who sang for the Ascension Vigil Mass! We had an ad hoc group of seven, with all three choirs represented :-).
Welcome to the final weekend of the Easter season! Since it's Pentecost, please wear red if possible! We also have more music to go through than usual -- if you have a chance to review everything before Saturday, that will save us time.
For those planning to sing for Monica's party (I believe Lisa, Rita, Bev, Jake, Frank & I -- anyone else?), would it be an issue to meet at 3:30 PM? That will give us time to stage food and run Shepherd of My Heart. And if anyone else is able to come early, we can get a jump-start on Mass music too.
Speaking of the party, let's stage any food in the Kitchenette; we can bring it over to the Hall after Mass. I'm also waiting to hear from Jonathan on when we're singing (after 6:15ish) and what the mic/sound situation looks like (especially given the 'flat' acoustics in the Hall)! I'll update once we have specifics.
Looking ahead, next weekend, 05/30, we celebrate Trinity Sunday, followed by Body & Blood of Christ on 06/06. Ordinary Time resumes on 06/13, and will continue through November.
I think that's it. If I don't see you, have a happy, safe Memorial Day weekend!
(All Mass Parts, except the Gospel Acclamation, are from Mass of Remembrance, including the Gloria, Holy, Eucharistic Acclamation 'A' (We Proclaim Your Death), Doxology & Lamb of God)
Out: Karen, Ally, Ginny
Entrance:
SS #116 - Holy Spirit (vs 1-3) (Canedo)
Materials (audio & sheet music)
**As a reminder, this tune has an Ostinato Refrain -- it'll be sung both alone and under the verses. There is a written repeat too, but we'll save time and not do that.
For the verses, would anymore be interested in cantoring? We could have three cantors, or one person person doing them all. While the verses are cantored, everyone else would sing the refrain softly.
The very last time, we'll repeat the refrain a capella.**
(Sprinkling & Glory to God)
Responsorial Ps (Lisa):
GC3 #076 - Ps 104 - Lord, Send Out Your Spirit (Lisicky)
Materials (audio & sheet music)
**The refrain will be sung in a three-part round/canon. Lisa will be on part one; we'll need at least 2-3 voices on parts two & three (don't worry about part four :-). We'll follow the written repeat, so the refrain will always be done twice. Everyone should sustain their last note until all three parts finish!
Also, if you're singing part three, it'll overlap the beginning of the verse; you'll also be the last group singing on the final refrain. Just a heads up!**
Sequence (Cris):
GC3 #1084 - Pentecost Sequence (Scagnelli)
Materials (audio & sheet music)
**We've gone back and forth on this, but I'll plan to cantor the Sequence. It'll be sung after the 2nd Reading and immediately before the Acclamation. So please be ready to do these back-to-back!**
Acclamation (Frank):
SS #005 (GC3 #844) - Alleluia! Give the Glory (vs 8) (Canedo)
Preparation:
GC3 #555 - Spirit Blowing through Creation (Haugen)
Materials (audio & sheet music)
**Since both the refrain and verses are long, let's sing the refrain between each verse (rather than only after 2 & 4). It can be done either way, but that will give us some flexibility for Offertory.**
(Mass Parts)
Communion:
GC3 #913 - We Are One (de Silva)
Materials (audio & sheet music)
**Please take a look if unfamiliar! We've only done this a few times before. Lots of eighth-note rhythms and some syncopation to watch out for!**
Closing:
GC3 #557 - Send Down the Fire (Haugen)
Materials (audio & sheet music)
**The same goes for this one. Let's plan to sing 2-3 verses. If you're feeling adventurous with parts, practice tracks are in the folder :-).**
