Songs & Updates for Saturday, January 24, 2026

3rd Sunday in Ordinary Time

Thanks for another strong Mass last week! The harmonies on One Bread, One Body were lovely, and we got several nice comments on I Have Been Anointed and With One VoiceHere's the audio.

I appreciate all of your input on taking over the Easter Vigil! Since we seem to be in agreement, I'll let Joanne know that we're willing to give this a shot. Once all of the music and materials are gathered up, we'll develop some kind of rehearsal plan. Stay tuned!

Music for February & March is in the works! If you're out any of those weeks, please let me know so that we can plan. When Lent begins on February 18th, we'll likely switch to Mass of Remembrance. That'll include a Penitential Rite (TBD) and Lenten Acclamation (probably SS #006 - Praise and Honor). As it stands, I don't believe we'll have any common songs for the season.

Our next Potluck is less than three weeks away! It looks like we have nine people sign up so far (including several family members). We're good on desserts, but still need main courses and sides. There's still time to join the party -- here are the signups!

A few of us chatted a week or so ago about cleaning up the choir cabinet (or at least, our section of it). We also have a bunch of music that needs to be labeled/filed. And I wouldn't mind doing a bit of wiring cleanup too! If that's something you'd be interested in helping with, let me know. Not urgent, but it could be a good Winter project :-).

Finally, this isn't strictly Music Ministry-related, but I'm on the planning committee for the Lenten workshop that Vince spoke about last week. If that's something you might like to attend (or help support), here's the webpage that we created for the program. Give me a shout with any questions!

Stay warm, and have a great week!

(All Mass Parts, except the Gospel Acclamation, are from Mass of Joy & Peace, including the Gloria, Holy, Eucharistic Acclamation 'B' (When We Eat This Bread), Doxology & Lamb of God)

Out: Karen

Entrance:
SS #132 - One Spirit, One Church (Keil)

**Since this is a tad long, let's take it at a fairly upbeat tempo. We'll plan to do both verses. If interested, additional harmonies are in the folder :-).

Keep in mind that there's no break between the refrain & verses -- we may be able to add a beat or two, but other than that, one goes straight into the other. Also, don't forget about the final 'Amen' ending!**

(Glory to God)

Responsorial Ps (Ginny):
SS #061 - Ps 27 - The Lord is My Light (Walker)

**A reminder that the verses are sung before the refrain (non-standard for a Psalm!). Because of this, we'll only sing the refrain once the first time (no repeat for the congregation). There are harmonies both in the book and in the separate choral music.**

Acclamation (Lisa):
SS #021 - Alleluia (vs 1) (Angrisano)

Preparation:
GC3 #690 - The Lord is My Light (Bouknight)

**Please take a look if unfamiliar! Verses 1 & 3 (mostly) share the same melody, while verse 2 is different. It has four-part harmony throughout. There are quite a few slower, Gospel-style recordings out there, but I'd like to do it along these lines instead.**

(Mass Parts)

Communion:
SS #106 (GC3 #766) - City of God (Schutte)

**This will be our second time singing 'City of God' for Communion. I'd suggest having someone start the singing, and we'll repeat verse later if needed.

Verses 1 & 2 (mostly) share the same melody; verse 3 is totally different, and the transition into it is a bit tricky! Verse 4 goes back to the original melody, but only the first half. How's that for consistency? **

Closing:
SS #202 -  Shine, Jesus, Shine (Kendrick)

**Father is a fan of this one, so we'll probably do all three verses. Since the verses are wordy, we'll take them a bit slower than the refrain. We'll also end with an a capella refrain (instead of the written final ending).**
