Songs & Updates for Saturday, November 22, 2025

Solemnity of Christ the King

Thanks to everyone who came out last week! There was quite a bit going on (especially with the Fall Festival), but we pulled it off! Our new song, Our God Reigns, also worked fairly well for a first run! I'll program this again so that we can clean up a few things. Here's the audio.

A quick reminder that we're meeting at 3:30 PM this Saturday to review Mass of Joy & Peace and prep Advent music. We'll likely do the same next week, November 29th.

This weekend's celebration of Christ the King marks the official end of Ordinary Time. Here's to another great season of 'regular' Masses! Looking forward to kicking off Advent next week!

Saturday is also the Feast Day of St. Cecilia, patroness of music and musicians. Thanks as always for everything you do -- it really makes our liturgies special!

Last week, Ally played clarinet with us for the first time! Nicely done, Ally! I don't believe we've had clarinet before; it's also been quite a while since we've had more than one instrumentalist :-).

Music for Thanksgiving Eve (November 26th @ 6 PM) has been added to the November music plan. Note one new piece -- God Sends Us Forth (GC3 #759). I stumbled across this recently, and thought it would be a fun addition to our repertoire! I'll schedule it for a Saturday at some point :-).

If you haven't already, please let me know whether you're able to help with the Christmas Pageant on December 20th. I'm still waiting on details from the organizer, but I'd imagine it'll be a similar program to last year. Stay tuned!

Finally, a few updates on the plan for Christmas:
  • We're sticking with the same schedule as last year: Christmas Eve @ 4:00 (Children's Mass) & 6:00 PM; Christmas Day @ 10:30 AM. There wasn't enough interest to justify adding an 8:00 PM or 8:30 AM liturgy to the mix.
  • It looks like we have folks available for the 4:00 and/or 6:00 (including Bev on organ). We'll likely organize the 'adult' 4:00 preludes, with one of the youth cantoring during Mass. It's been a while since we've revamped the children's selections, so there will be some new songs added too.
  • We'll jointly plan 6:00 music with Joanne. Our groups will probably do two preludes each, with many of the usual carols during Mass. We're hoping to include our arrangement of Night of Silence / Silent Night as well, which everyone really liked.
  • Finally, Barb P. will be playing organ for Christmas Day. If you're not able to join us that evening, consider helping with the morning liturgy instead!

I think that's all for now. Stay warm, and have a great week!

(All Mass Parts, except the Gospel Acclamation, are from Mass of Creation, including the Gloria, Holy, Eucharistic Acclamation 'C' (Save Us, Savior), Doxology & Lamb of God)

Out: Frank, Ally

Entrance:
GC3 #572 - The King of Glory (Jabusch)

**Let's plan for all five verses. Also, don't forget that with the exception of the first & last time, we'll sing the refrain softly between verses. The refrain will be piano dynamic and the verses forte.**

(Glory to God)

Responsorial Ps (Cris):
GC3 #084 - Ps 122 - Let Us Go Rejoicing (Joncas)

**We don't typically sing this arrangement of Psalm 122 -- please take a look if unfamiliar! If anyone's feeling particularly adventurous, there are some lovely (but somewhat messy!) parts on the refrain and verses. We could consider doing this as a duet or trio. But no pressure!**

Acclamation (Frank TBD):
SS #021 - Alleluia (vs 1) (Angrisano)

Preparation:
GC3 #610 - Sing of the Lord’s Goodness (Sands)

**We'll plan to sing all four verses on this one as well. Including the descant (upper line on the refrain) would be great too!**

(Mass Parts)

Communion:
SS #100 - At the Name of Jesus (Walker)

**Could we begin this with an instrumental, before having someone start the singing? Also, don't forget that the verses are written out-of-order -- because of slightly different melodies, verses 1 & 3 and 2 & 4 are paired together. We can always repeat verses if needed.**

Closing:
SS #179 - He is Exalted (Paris)

**We'll do this as written. It'll be structured like this:

-Intro
-Refrain ("He is exalted...")
-Verse ("He is the Lord...") - to 1st ending ("High...")
-Refrain
-Verse - to 2nd ending ("High...")
-Verse - to Final ending ("He is exalted...")**
