26th Sunday in Ordinary Time
Thanks for a strong piano Mass last week! The harmonies and phrasing were great (several folks commented on this!). Even though the logistics were a bit messy, what we tried during Communion turned out pretty well too! Here's the audio.
Speaking of Communion, I'm seeing what we can do to make things flow better. Starting the song earlier gives us more time, but also makes it more difficult for everyone to receive. I'll try to catch up with Father to see what we can figure out. Thanks for bringing this up!
Let's plan to take our group photo for the Directory at 3:30 PM this Saturday. From our email discussions, this seems to work best. We'll stage it in the Chapel (per Joanie's request). If it's possible to wear green (something like a Good Shepherd polo), that would be great! Also, there's Reconciliation in the Chapel beginning at 4:00 -- we'll definitely need to be out of there before then.
Father mentioned last week that the new Dcn. Bob music books are almost ready! There will be copies for both the congregation & choir (voice/guitar), so we'll be able to use this music any time. A dedicated piano accompaniment book is also in the works. If you'd like to contribute toward the printing costs (no pressure!), I believe there's an option on the Church's online giving platform.
Our October music & cantor schedule is ready! A few calendar notes:
- October 4/5th is the final weekend for the Season of Creation. We return to 'normal' Ordinary Time Masses after that.
- October 11th is the Feast Day of St. John XXIII, proponent of Vatican II and namesake of our KofC Council. I don't believe there's any special music, but Knights will sit together & serve during Mass.
- October 25/26th is Time & Talent weekend! We may need a few volunteers to help with recruiting after Mass. It would be great to pull in some new folks, especially as we approach the holidays :-).
November music (through Christ the King) will also be available shortly. I'm hoping to have the beginnings of an Advent/Christmas plan drafted soon too (once we sort out the schedule!).
Finally, looking ahead, All Saints falls on a Saturday this year (Nov. 1st). Since it's not a Holy Day of Obligation, there won't be a dedicated Mass. We will, however, celebrate All Souls during regular Masses that weekend. Just a heads up!
I think that's it. See you Saturday!
(All Mass Parts, except the Gospel Acclamation, are from Mass of Creation, including the Gloria, Holy, Eucharistic Acclamation 'C' (Save Us, Savior), Doxology & Lamb of God)
Out: None
Entrance:
GC3 #925 - All Who Hunger, Gather Gladly (Dunstan)
Materials (audio & sheet music)
**The tune for this is HOLY MANNA. We'll sing all three verses, with a slight pause between each.**
(Glory to God)
Responsorial Ps (Cris):
GC3 #093 - Ps 146 - I Will Praise the Lord (Joncas)
Materials (audio & sheet music)
**On the verses, there are sections in the accompaniment with block chords and running eighths. Please be careful about staying in sync! We should also watch out for dynamics -- the refrain is always the same dynamic, while each verse progressively gets louder.**
Acclamation (Jake):
SS #021 - Alleluia (vs 1)
Preparation:
SS #152 (GC3 #777) - Here I Am, Lord (Schutte)
Materials (audio & sheet music)
**We may only get through two verses. Let's keep it upbeat, but not rush! If interested, there are parts in both GC & SS (but the arrangements are somewhat different).**
(Mass Parts)
Communion:
SS #138 - Voice of Christ (Smith)
Materials (audio & sheet music)
**Please take a look at this one -- we've only done it a few times before! Unless anyone wants to do this, I don't mind staying back to get it started.
Verses one and two use the same melody, while three and four are both different. There's also an interlude between the refrain and verse three. If interested, there are separate parts in the folder. We'll probably need to repeat verses and/or add an instrumental for time.**
Closing:
GC3 #557 - Send Down the Fire (Haugen)
Materials (audio & sheet music)
**We started reviewing this last week. If anyone's feeling adventurous, there are staggered parts on the refrain :-). I'd like to do all four verses, but we'll see how early Father processes out.**
