Songs & Updates for Saturday, March 1, 2025 [updated]

8th Sunday in Ordinary Time

Nice job last week! Other than some minor sync issues, everything balanced quite well and the harmonies were lovely. I also appreciate the help with cleanup!

Here's the audio. Moving the recorder back a bit (between the piano & guitar stand, and behind the monitor) seems to produce more balanced recordings (I can actually hear everyone now!).

Welcome to the final weekend of Ordinary Time! A reminder that we're meeting at 3:30 PM to review Lent music. We started looking at the Lenten Acclamation last week; I'd like to work on that a bit more, plus go through Mass of Remembrance. If there's time, we may look at other pieces too.

The finalized music & cantor schedule for March is ready! A few quick notes:
  • We switch to Mass of Remembrance on March 5th (Ash Wednesday), and will continue singing this through the end of the Easter season (late-June).
  • During Lent, cantors will be needed for the Penitential Rite, Psalm & Lenten Acclamation. I apologize for the messy schedule! As always, we can tweak as needed.
  • The 'We Proclaim Your Death' from Remembrance is one we haven't used before. Let's definitely look at this before next week.
  • Let's also plan to use the Alternate Tropes (Lamb, Bread, Prince, etc.) for the 'Lamb of God'.

If you'd be interested in singing or playing preludes, let me know! We have six weeks of Lent before Holy Week in mid-April. I'm opening to programming preludes any of those weeks!

Barb P. and I are discussing Good Friday and Easter Sunday. It's looking like we'll handle Good Friday the same as last year; But Easter Sunday (8:30 AM) will probably be different. I'll put out a separate note on what we're thinking, and we can go from there.

Finally, the planning committee for the Parish Mission met yesterday afternoon. A few highlights:
  • The evening sessions (April 28-30) are now 6:00-8:30 PM. There will be a meal, followed by the Mission program (including small-group discussions).
  • Each night will have a theme & specific discussion points. It looks like we'll need music for Gathering, Psalm, Acclamation, Communion & Closing (almost a full Mass program :-).
  • The presenter is more-or-less leaving music at our discretion. Ideally, it would be great to involve as many Parish musicians as we can. I'll work with Barb P. & Joanne on logistics and picking selections that fit the themes & readings. Stay tuned!

UPDATE: 02/25: Bev put out a poll for our next Quarterly Potluck. Please let her know that works!

I think that's it. Enjoy the nice(r) weather, and see you Saturday!

**Please review before Saturday! We've only done it a few times before. This will be a capella with a leader part & ostinato refrain. I can sing the leader part unless anyone else is interested.
