Thanks to everyone who came out last week! We almost canceled Music Ministry activities due to weather, but I think sticking with the plan was a good call. Special thanks to Virginia for the last-minute piano coverage! Check out the audio here.
Also, I appreciate all who sang/played for the Solemnity of Mary on New Year's Day! It was nice to have more than just a pianist & cantor! Here's the audio from that one as well.
Happy two-year anniversary to Fr. Jozef! He (re-)joined the Parish on January 10, 2023, and celebrated his first Mass with us on the 14th. We had the pleasure of playing for that liturgy -- if you'd like a little trip down memory lane, here's the audio. Please wish Father a happy anniversary if you have a chance!
Let's welcome Karen to the group on flute! She asked about joining us last week. Many of you know that we've been without a melodic instrumentalist since Maggie (our long-time violinist) left the area in mid-2023. Luca also joined us on flute for a bit, but ended up switching to piano studies instead. It's great having a new instrumentalist in the mix!
Recent weather reminded me of an idea -- would there be any interest in creating something like a group chat for our ensemble? Since we're a (relatively) small group, this could potentially be useful for sorting out more time-sensitive matters. Or should we stick with our usual channels (email, Facebook, etc.)? No worries either way; just a thought.
Barb P., Joanne & I have been discussing how best to list selections for Holy Days/special Masses on the Music Ministry website. Some possibilities are a dedicated subpage, or just adding this info to our group calendar (which I'm still updating for 2025). Stay tuned.
Baptism of the Lord marks the final celebration of the Christmas Season. Next Saturday, we return to Ordinary Time until Lent kicks off at the beginning of March. More to come on that season soon!
Finally, we have a new song on the board for next week, January 18th: We Are One (GC3 #913). Let's take some time during rehearsal to look at this. It should be a fun addition to our repertoire!
Stay warm, and have a great week!
(All Mass Parts, except the Gospel Acclamation, are from Mass of Joy & Peace, including Holy, Eucharistic Acclamation 'B' (When We Eat This Bread), Doxology & Lamb of God)
Out: Maureen
Entrance:
SS #001 - Come to the River (Hurd)
**This is written as a Sprinkling Rite; it's also part of the same Mass Setting as our Gospel Acclamation. Please take a look if it's unfamiliar -- we don't have a chance to use this very often! Including the lower harmonies would be great! We'll likely sing 2-3 verses.**
(Glory to God)
Responsorial Ps (Jake):
GC3 #076 - Ps 104 - Lord, Send Out Your Spirit (Lisicky)
**We normally use this Psalm for Pentecost, but it also matches the Readings for this week. It'll be done in a cannon/round. The cantor sings Part 1; we'll need 2-3 voices each on Parts 2 & 3, which have staggered entrances. Please check out a sample recording if that doesn't make sense!**
Acclamation (Frank Cris):
SS #005 (GC3 #844) - Alleluia! Give the Glory (vs 3 or 4) (Canedo)
Preparation:
GC3 #752 - Jesus, Your Spirit in Us (Taize)
**Would anyone be interested in cantoring verses? I'm happy to do this again, but you all have first dibs :-). As a reminder, we'll sing the refrain by itself twice between verses; when the cantor sings the verses, everyone else will keep singing the refrain softly. Parts would be great! This is another one to listen to if that doesn't make sense.**
(Mass Parts)
Communion:
GC3 #939 - Behold the Lamb (Willett)
Closing:
SS #202 - Shine, Jesus, Shine (Kendrick)
**I believe Father mentioned before that this is one of his favorites, so let's plan to do all of the verses :-). Since they're a bit wordy, the tempo on the verses can be a tad slower than the refrain. As usual, we'll repeat the refrain at the end a capella (rather than going to the written final ending).**
