Songs & Updates for Saturday, November 30, 2024

1st Sunday of Advent

Thanks for another strong Mass last week! We ended Ordinary Time & Liturgical Year B on a high note! And welcome again to our newest member, Barry! Checked out the audio here

Welcome to Advent & Liturgical Year C!

Since we just had our first snow of the season, this is your annual winter weather reminder :-). Masses generally aren't canceled, but in the event of weather, I may cancel Music Ministry activities. Please monitor your email/Facebook for updates! Of course, if you are able to make it to Mass, feel free to do what you can! Otherwise, Father will just lead the singing a capella (like he does for Daily Mass).

Last Friday, 11/22, was the Feast of St. Cecelia, patron saint of music & musicians. As we kick off Advent and a very busy December, thanks so much for all that you do for our Parish community! Music is such a crucial part of the Mass experience, so it's very much appreciated!

Paul has been doing quite a bit of equalization work on the sound system. Sound is now louder & clearer, and the side-facing speakers (including the one directly above the choir) are much more audible. We shouldn't have any problems hearing ourselves (or Fr. Jozef & Dcn. Jack) anymore :-).

A reminder that Mass for Thanksgiving Eve is this Wednesday, 11/27, @ 7:00 PM. If you're able to join Bev & I, we'll rehearse at 6:15 PM. The music is in our November plan

Our music & cantor schedule for December (including 6:00 PM Christmas Eve) is ready! We may need to tweak this as we finalize details, though. Note that three cantors will be needed per Mass throughout Advent (Penitential Rite, Psalm & Gospel Acclamation). Also, I'm likely out on 12/07 for the SCCS Christmas concert, so Bev's in charge that night.

Until we sort out the rehearsal situation (stay tuned...), please work on Christmas preludes & Mass music! For preludes, I'm hoping to involve as many of the Sunday musicians as we can.

Don't forget that we're meeting at 3:30 PM this week. That will give us extra time to work through special music for Advent. Also, please review Mass of Joy & Peace!

Some emails went out about music/logistics for the 12/12 Our Lady of Guadalupe Mass and 12/14 Christmas Pageant. If you haven't already, please let me know if you can help! I'll share more details once we get everything squared away.

I think that's it. If I don't see you, have a happy, safe Thanksgiving!

(All Mass Parts, except the Gospel Acclamation, are from Mass of Joy & Peace, including Holy, Eucharistic Acclamation 'B' (When We Eat This Bread), Doxology & Lamb of God)

Out: Jake, Frank

Entrance:
GC3 #398 - Prepare! Prepare! (Pishner)

**Please make sure you're familiar with how this flows! We'll follow this arrangement. If you'd be interested in cantoring the opening refrain and/or a verse(s), let me know! I'm happy to do some or all of this, but you all have first dibs!**

Candle Lighting:
GC3 #406 - Wait for the Lord (Berthier)

**We'll sing the refrain only twice during the candle-lighting. Parts would be great. Bev will just giving us the opening chord.**

Penitential Rite (Lisa):
Mass of Joy & Peace (Alonso)

**As a reminder, the cantor will sing the 'Presider or Cantor' part, while everyone else will sing the 'Assembly' part. Father will either speak over the last two instrumental bars ("May almighty God have mercy on us..."), or wait until after those two bars.**

(No Gloria)

Responsorial Ps (Cris):
SS #060 - Ps 25 - To You, O God, I Lift Up My Soul (Hurd)

Acclamation (Ben):
SS #005 (GC3 #844) - Alleluia! Give the Glory (vs 5) (Canedo)

Preparation:
GC3 #419 - Each Winter as the Year Grows Older (Gay)

Holy, Holy, Holy:
Mass of Joy & Peace (Alonso)

Eucharistic Acclamation:
Mass of Joy & Peace ('When We Eat This Bread') (Alonso)

Doxology/Amen:
Mass of Joy & Peace (Alonso)

Lamb of God:
Mass of Joy & Peace (Alonso)

Communion:
SS #109 - Find Us Ready (Booth)

**Please review if unfamiliar! We've only done this a few times before. If interested, separate voice parts for the refrain are in the folder. Also, we'll skip the optional Coda, going to the regular Final ending instead.**

Commendation:
Song of Farewell (Schutte) [if needed]

Closing:
GC3 #401 - O Come, Divine Messiah! (Pellegrin)
