Songs & Updates for Saturday, May 18, 2024 [updated]

Pentecost Sunday

Thanks for another strong Mass last week! It was fun pulling out some classics like We Are Many Parts and Be Not Afraid again, and Anthem is coming along nicely as well. Here's the audio

Happy Pentecost Weekend! This is our final weekend of the Easter season, so there's quite a bit going on. Could we please meet at 3:30? That'll give us some extra time to work on parts, etc.. Please check out the notes/recordings before Saturday -- that'll save us time. And don't forget to wear RED :-).

Time-permitting, let's continue working on Storrington Mass this week. I'd like to review at least melody on the Holy, Eucharistic Acc., Doxology & Lamb of God (the Gloria can wait for now). Once melody is in good shape, we can look at parts.

Regarding sound system/choir area cleanup, we aimed for a Thursday last year. I'm open to whatever works best for everyone, though. Stay tuned for a quick poll with dates/times during the last two weeks in May. If that doesn't work, we can look at early June instead.

It's hard to believe that Memorial Day is next weekend! Summer's right around the corner, so a reminder to please keep us in-the-loop on vacations, etc.. I'll do my best to scale back in June, July & August, but knowing who's here will really help with planning during this tricky time of year :-).

Enjoy the nice weather and see you Saturday!

(All Mass Parts, except the Gospel Acclamation, are from Mass of Remembrance, including the Gloria, Holy, Eucharistic Acclamation 'B' (Save Us, Savior), Doxology & Lamb of God)

Out: Luca, Frank (tentative), Ginny

Entrance:
SS #116 - Holy Spirit (vs 1-3) (Canedo)
Materials (**links removed**)

**We'll need three cantors for the verses (everyone else will stay on the ostinato refrain). Any takers? Also, at the end, we'll repeat the refrain a capella. This will be the same for Gathering & Closing.**

(Sprinkling Rite / Gloria -- see script & sample recording; final week of doing the Sprinkling)

Responsorial Ps (Lisa):
GC3 #076 - Ps 104 - Lord, Send Out Your Spirit (Lisicky)
Materials (**links removed**)

**The refrain will be sung as a three-part cannon (round). Lisa will be on Part 1; we'll need two people each on Parts 2 & 3 (don't worry about 4). Keep in mind that Part 3 will overlap the beginning of each verse and will be the last group singing on the final refrain. Hopefully that makes sense!**

Sequence (Cris):
GC3 #1084 - Pentecost Sunday - Mass during the Day ABC / Sequence (Scagnelli)
Materials (**links removed**)

**The Sequence will be sung immediately after the Second Reading & before the Gospel Acclamation (just like Easter Sunday). This will be done with accompaniment, rather than a capella.**

Acclamation (Jake):
SS #005 (GC3 #844) - Alleluia! Give the Glory (vs 8) (Canedo)

Preparation:
GC3 #752 - Jesus, Your Spirit in Us (Taize)
Materials (**links removed**)

**Would anyone be interested in cantoring the verses? If not, I can do this. The structure will be very similar to Holy Spirit, with the refrain sung twice between each verse. It'll also be sung softly under the verses. We may repeat the refrain several times at the very end (depending on timing).**

(Mass Parts)

Communion:
GC3 #555 - Spirit Blowing through Creation (Haugen)
Materials (**links removed**)

**Don't forget that verses 1 & 2 and 3 & 4 are paired together. In other words, these will be sung back-to-back, with the refrain only sung after verses 2 & 4. Also, could we have maybe two people on melody and two on the descant? That balanced nicely last time.**

Commendation:
Song of Farewell (Schutte) [if needed]

Closing:
SS #116 - Holy Spirit (vs 4-6) (Canedo)
