Songs & Updates for Saturday, July 6, 2019 [updated]

Thanks for another solid Mass last week! We were somewhat short-staffed, but everything still came together pretty well. Two guest musicians joined us: Charlotte and Pat. Recordings HERE.

Our music for July (HERE) has been sent to the Office for approval. Will let you know of any changes. The cantor schedule can also be found HERE.

Father Charlie is out on Saturday. He'll be celebrating the 50th anniversary of a folk group that he directed back in the day. Please be prepared for a visiting priest. Most likely, we'll need to tweak the Mass Parts a bit to include spoken, rather than sung, presider parts. Stay tuned.

Our Communion song for July (tentatively) is We Come Today. This is a pretty simple piece, but there's plenty of room for improv vocal and instrumental harmony. Swinging the melody line a bit also helps to keep it flowing. Unlike other Communion songs, we won't do an instrumental at the beginning; instead, one of us will need to get the singing started, and everyone else can join in later (any takers?).

Don't forget to look at our 4th of July Postlude, God Bless America. Sheet music went out by email last Thursday. We also touched on this during Saturday practice. Specifically, I would suggest reviewing the first couple of pages leading up to the chorus (not as well-known as the rest of the song). We'll also need to be careful of the transitions where the tempo changes. A good reference recording can be found HERE (very similar to the version we're singing).

Jim, Ken and Maggie are out, so this will be a piano-based Mass. Given it's a holiday weekend, please let me know of any other absences so we can plan accordingly.
