17th Sunday in Ordinary Time
Thanks for another solid Mass last week! Our program of 'classics' (Gather Us In, They Who Do Justice, Blest Are They and Bring Forth the Kingdom) came together nicely. The harmony on the Psalm was a highlight. Recordings can be found HERE.I'm in the process of picking the music/cantors for August, and should have everything ready in the next week or so. A reminder that I'm out the first weekend of August (08/03), so tentatively, Maggie will be in command. There's also a Baptism scheduled for 08/10 -- if everyone could plan to be there, that would be great!
We've been dabbling a bit lately with informal preludes, especially when we have extra time after wrapping up practice (last week's lovely rendition of Where Two or Three Are Gathered is a good example). Bev and Maggie are organizing some piano/violin duets for future Saturdays, but if anyone else has pieces they'd like to do, let me know. These can run the gamut from small group vocal/instrumental to large group pieces. Pairing them with readings that match the song's themes would be ideal, but not required. I'd love to do more of this kind of thing moving forward.
There's a wedding scheduled for 2:30 PM in the Church. This shouldn't effect practice, but a heads up just in case.
Seek Ye First is sometimes a bit too short for Offertory. Let's plan to sing all four verses and use the 'Alleluia' descant as a fifth verse if needed. We could also add a brief interlude between verses and an instrumental at the end to fill the time.
Also, please make sure you're familiar with the 'flow' of Let the River Flow. The sequence is as follows: intro, verse, refrain, intro, verse refrain, refrain, outro. Including the echos on the refrain would be nice as well :-).
Ken and Maggie are out this week;
Thanks as always for your dedication to our Ministry, and see you Saturday!
UPDATE: 07/24: Father has decided that we won't be using the 'Gloria' for a while during the hottest part of the summer. It won't be included on songsheets until further notice.
