Songs & Updates for Saturday, August 18, 2018 [updated]

20th Sunday in Ordinary Time
Nice job last week! The program was a good mix of more traditional and contemporary selections (Taste and See and Let the River Flow were definitely highlights from opposite ends of that spectrum). Special thanks to Ken, Maggie and Mary (welcome back!) for tackling the Psalm. Things are finally normalizing again as summer starts to wind down.

A reminder that Feast of the Assumption Mass is this evening, 08/14, at 7 PM. If you're available to help, Barb's group is covering.

With our more recent focus on vocals, let's make sure we're taking time each week to balance singers and instrumentalists. This is especially important when it comes to three or four-part singing. We may only have one or two people on a given part (with most everyone else on melody), so it's essential that these lines don't get buried in the mix. Please remind me if I forget to do this.

If you weren't around several weeks ago when we did Gather Your People, please look this over. It's a song that Father is introducing to the Parish, so don't be surprised if it crops up a bit more often.

For I Danced in the Morning, make sure you're familiar with the lyrics and rhythm (especially verse three -- this one always trips us up). It's a fast-moving, wordy song, so we need to stay together as much as possible (think bouncy and staccato). I'd also like to add in the slow-down during verse four, which fits the more somber tone of that particular verse.

Don't forget that a Memorial Mass for Bob Killoren will be celebrated this Sunday, 08/19, at 11 AM. Will pass along details as I get them.

Finally, Look Beyond is tentatively on the board as a prelude next Saturday, 08/25. If folks are up for another 'parts song', I can provide music. This piece is no longer in the GC, but fits the readings for this month quite nicely.

As far as I know, we're at full staff this week.
