This Saturday is the 26th Sunday in Ordinary Time.
Very nice work last week! I think several of our more fun and upbeat tunes speak for themselves: (here), (here) and (here). Special thanks to Jonathan and Barry for (re-)joining us!
For those who asked about Kay's funeral Mass last Friday, it was a very nice service. Father Charlie, as well as Deacons Mike and Jack, presided, with about 100 people in attendance. From the sounds of it, more people showed up than was expected, with a fair number from out-of-town/state. The Hall was split to accommodate both a church and luncheon setup. The program was largely traditional/folk-based, with Chip, Barry, Jonathan and Kay's brother Don playing guitar. Jeff was also there to cover the Mass Parts, and Barb cantored. Myself, as well as a few other singers from the Sunday Masses, rounded out the voices.
Chip approached me after the luncheon and is interested in returning at some point. Despite the circumstances, it'll be nice to have a regular bass player again.
This will be our last week doing 'We Come Today' as our monthly Communion song. This went pretty well last week, although Communion was a bit long and we ended up doing the song for about eight minutes (almost twice our normal length). That's the main reason why we repeated almost all of the verses; plus, with the instrumentalists switching off to go up and receive Communion, I didn't want to try anything 'fancy' in the middle. We did manage to squeeze in a brief instrumental at the end, though, which was a fun way to wrap up the song.
I'm hoping to select the music for October in the next week or so (thanks again for the quick responses on Psalms!). As always, I'm open to suggestions, especially for a new Communion song. Also, I know it's a bit early, but we may want to start thinking about our Christmas Mass program -- I'd like to avoid the usual last-minute rush in pulling this together.
Eva is interested in getting together after Mass for dinner, possibly off-site. Stay tuned for an email from her on this.
Finally, it was suggested that a small group meet to sort out the issues with the Parish Hall sound system (with approval from the Parish Office, of course). Several of us have experience working with sound systems, and it would be great to figure out where that annoying hiss is coming from. More on this later.
Maggie is out this week.
UPDATE: 9/23: due to a change in plans, Eva will also be out this week.
