Songs & Updates for Saturday, March 7, 2026

3rd Sunday of Lent

Thanks for another strong Mass last week! We had quite a few 'classics' in the mix, which was nice to see! I also appreciate everyone who was able to come out for another Holy Week rehearsal -- things are coming together! Here's the audio.

Our March music and cantor schedule is ready! This will take us through the rest of Lent and Palm Sunday. Let me know if you spot any issues.

Don't forget that we're meeting at 3:30 again to continue working on Holy Week music. We'll clean up Christ, Yesterday and Today (including phrasing!) and look at Litany of Saints (which Jake offered to cantor). I'm hoping to write out the Litany with the correct text too; stay tuned!

Next up will be Good Friday music. Once we hit those special pieces, I'll schedule some larger rehearsals to go through everything else. More on that soon.

In the meantime, I'd highly recommend putting together a binder with your Holy Week music (spares are in the cabinet). There's quite a bit of material, so this will make it much easier to manage! Plus, we're looking at phasing out printed programs, even for special liturgies (except possibly Vigil).

A heads up that Victoria is covering for Bev next Saturday, March 14th. The two of us are meeting that Thursday to review music. Victoria hasn't played for us since last July, so let's welcome her back!

Bev sent out a poll for our next Spring Potluck. So far, it looks like May 23rd might be our best bet, but we'll see what shakes out.

Finally, Karen let me know yesterday that she needs to step away until her family's schedule opens up again. She's hoping to re-join us in June.

I think that's it! Stay dry, and have a great week!

(All Mass Parts, except the Lenten Acclamation, are from Mass of Remembrance, including the Penitential, Holy, Eucharistic Acclamation 'A' (We Proclaim Your Death), Doxology & Lamb of God)

Out: Maureen, Karen

Entrance:
SS #001 - Come to the River (Hurd)

**This is written as a Sprinkling Rite (same Mass Setting as Praise and Honor), but we'll use it for Gathering instead. Since it's a bit long, let's aim for 2-3 verses. The very last time, we'll go the the written final ending.**

Penitential Rite (Ginny):
Mass of Remembrance (Haugen)

Responsorial Ps (Cris):
SS #074 - Ps 95 - If Today (Thomson)

Acclamation (Frank):
SS #006 - Praise and Honor (Mass of Glory) (3rd A)

**Unfortunately, I don't have a recording of this week's verse. But it's a bit more straight-forward than the others, with one full bar of rest after the refrain.**

Preparation:
GC3 #470 - Somebody’s Knockin’ at Your Door (Spiritual)

**Please take a look if unfamiliar! We'll sing the 'refrain' on the first page once; then the verses (cantor/response format) will be done back-to-back. If anyone's interested in singing the solo parts, let me know! We'll repeat verses as needed.**

(Mass Parts)

Communion:
GC3 #480 - Mercy, O God (O'Brien)

**Since there are six verses, let's start with a brief instrumental, before adding in voices. Would someone like to start the singing?

It would be great to include at least the soprano, alto and tenor parts (there are some good recordings & practice tracks in the folder :-). Also keep in mind that there's a key change between the refrain and verse, so tuning can be a bit tricky! We'll sing this one more time later in the season.**

Closing:
GC3 #474 - From Ashes to the Living Font (Hommerding)

**We're going a bit old-school with this one! For verse 3, we'll use the Sunday III text, which is for this week's readings. The 'regular' verses (1, 2 & 4) will be used for the rest.**
