3rd Sunday of Advent
Thanks to everyone who came out last week! Choral Society had a great holiday concert at 4 PM that afternoon, so the timing didn't really work. Looking forward to being back!
Joanne and I had a chance to chat about Christmas planning. Here's where things stand so far:
- 4:00 PM: For the Children's Mass, Joanne is organizing, and I'm conducting the kids. Youth selections & Mass music are squared away, with preludes still being worked out. Violet is planning to cantor; adult musicians will really only be needed for preludes, Mass Parts and accompaniment; pretty much everything else is handled by the kids.
- 6:00 PM: This will be a 'combined choirs' liturgy, co-directed by Joanne and I. We'll have organ (Bev), piano, violin and possibly other instruments. Violet is on the board to cantor (but some other cantors will probably be needed too). Mass music will likely be the same as last year, just with different preludes. And some preludes may be done for both Masses (TBD).
- If you're not able to join us for Christmas Eve, don't forget that Barb P. is planning the 10:30 AM Mass on Christmas Day, which will be done with organ.
- Some separate emails have been going out to nail down exactly who's doing what. If we could confirm all of that by the end of the week, that would be awesome!
A quick reminder that we're meeting at 3:30 PM this Saturday to work on Christmas preludes. Besides Masters in This Hall, we'll also look at God Rest You Merry, Gentlemen (a capella in parts). If additional preludes are needed, we may pull some other pieces too.
For the Christmas Pageant, the dress rehearsal will be this Sunday, December 14th @ ~9:15 AM. Could we please meet @ 8:15 AM? Sorry for the late notice, but I just got confirmation on the date. If that doesn't work for you, no worries! I'll send a separate note with the details probably tomorrow.
Masses for New Year's Eve/Day will be on December 31st @ 7 PM & January 1st @ 10:30 AM. Bev is playing both liturgies. Barb P. will cantor the evening Mass, and I have morning. Join us if you're able!
Finally, our next Potluck will be on February 7th after Mass. Thanks to Bev for organizing! The RSVP and food signup can be found here.
I think that's it; thanks for all that you do, and see you Saturday!
(All Mass Parts, except the Gospel Acclamation, are from Mass of Joy & Peace, including the Penitential Rite, Holy, Eucharistic Acclamation 'B' (When We Eat This Bread), Doxology & Lamb of God)
Out: None (?) Frank
Entrance:
GC3 #423 - Awake! Awake, and Greet the New Morn (Haugen)
Materials (audio & sheet music)
**Please take a look if unfamiliar -- we don't sing this one too often! Let's plan to do all four verses (they'll go by pretty quickly).
One quick note -- for verse one, we'll sing "....for soon he is born...", rather than "...for now he is born..." (which is for Christmas).**
Candle-Lighting:
GC3 #406 - Wait for the Lord (Ref x2) (Berthier)
Materials (audio & sheet music)
Penitential Rite (Cris):
Mass of Joy & Peace (Alonso)
Mass of Joy & Peace (Alonso)
(no Gloria)
Responsorial Ps (Lisa):
GC3 #093 - Ps 146 - I Will Praise the Lord (Joncas)
Materials (audio & sheet music)
Acclamation (Frank):
SS #021 - Alleluia (vs 1) (Angrisano)
Preparation:
GC3 #413 - Comfort, Comfort, O My People (Olearius)
Materials (audio & sheet music)
**Ideally, I'd like to do this with just flute/clarinet & voices (in parts). We can add in accompaniment if needed, though! The tempo will be along these lines, but a tad quicker. There's a good chance we'll need to repeat verses too (or add an instrumental).**
(Mass Parts)
Communion:
SS #109 - Find Us Ready (Booth)
Materials (audio & sheet music)
**If interested, there are separate parts available in the folder. We can either have someone start the singing, or kick it off with an instrumental instead.**
Closing:
GC3 #401 - O Come, Divine Messiah! (Pellegrin)
Materials (audio & sheet music)
**Let's plan to sing all three verses in parts, with a slight retard/pause between each.**
