1st Sunday of Advent
Thanks to everyone who came out last week -- we ended Ordinary Time on a high note! The harmonies sounded great, and it was fun pulling out some less often-used Christ the King music! We should also take time at some point to work on Let Us Go Rejoicing -- it would be nice to add in the rest of the parts :-). Here's the audio.
Welcome to Advent and Liturgical Year A!
Don't forget that Mass for Thanksgiving Eve is tomorrow, November 26th, at 6:00 PM. The music is in our November plan and on the website. Please come hang out with Bev & I if you're able! We'll run the program around 5:15 PM (if you can't be there that early, no worries -- join us when you can!).
Could we meet at 3:30 again this Saturday? That'll give us a bit of extra time on Advent music (which we started looking at last week), and possibly Christmas preludes too.
I was finally in touch with the organizer for the Christmas Pageant. She confirmed that the event will be from 1-3 PM on December 20th. We'll only be needed for the first half (the Pageant itself). The music will be the same as last year, so I'll re-share that program. And if you haven't already, please let me know whether you can help! I believe we're up to four people so far -- Bev, Ginny, Jake and myself.
Speaking of Christmas, music for December is (mostly) drafted. I'll get that finalized in the next week. Bev, Joanne and I still need to chat about Christmas Eve, though. Stay tuned!
A reminder that I'll be out (Lisa too) next Saturday, December 6th, for the SCCS holiday concert. If anyone else is not available that week, please let me know. That way we can plan.
Finally, if I don't see you, have a happy, blessed Thanksgiving! As always, I'm so thankful for all that you do to make our music special!
(All Mass Parts, except the Gospel Acclamation, are from Mass of Joy & Peace, including the Penitential Rite, Holy, Eucharistic Acclamation 'B' (When We Eat This Bread), Doxology & Lamb of God)
Out: Jake, Karen, Frank
Entrance:
GC3 #398 - Prepare! Prepare! (Pishner)
Materials (**links removed**))
**We'll arrange this the same as past years (somewhat different from what's in the book; see below). If you'd be interested in cantoring a verse(s), you all have first dibs! Otherwise, I can do it again.
- Cantor sings refrain a capella
- Everyone sings refrain w/ accompaniment added
- Cantor sings verses back-to-back, while choir continues repeating the refrain
- After all five verses, everyone sings refrain
- Everyone sings refrain again, but a capella
I hope that makes sense; if not, check out the recordings :-)**
Candle Lighting:
GC3 #406 - Wait for the Lord (Berthier)
Materials (**links removed**))
**During the candle-lighting, we'll sing the refrain twice (no verses). Light accompaniment and all four parts would be great! We can double-check with Father on the timing, but this will be done all four weeks of Advent.
As a side note, the practice tracks use the arrangement from the old GC, which has the verses written differently. We're only worried about the refrain for now, but just so there's no confusion!**
Penitential Rite (Ben):
Mass of Joy & Peace
Mass of Joy & Peace
Materials (**links removed**))
(no Gloria)
Responsorial Ps (Cris):
SS #084 - Ps 122 - I Rejoiced (Thomson)
Materials (**links removed**))
Acclamation (Ginny):
SS #021 - Alleluia (vs 1) (Angrisano)
Preparation:
GC3 #419 - Each Winter as the Year Grows Older (Gay)
Materials (**links removed**))
(Mass Parts)
Communion:
SS #109 - Find Us Ready (Booth)
Materials (**links removed**))
**We'll do this one as written, minus the Optional Coda (we'll go the 'regular' Final Ending instead). Would someone like to get the singing started? And if interested, there are separate parts in the folder.**
Closing:
GC3 #401 - O Come, Divine Messiah (Pellegrin)
Materials (**links removed**))
**We'll sing all three verses back-to-back (no interlude). Practice tracks for parts are in the folder.**
