Songs & Updates for Saturday, May 3, 2025 [updated]

3rd Sunday of Easter / May Crowning

Thanks to everyone who came out for First Communion! There were a few minor logistical hiccups, but it came together quite nicely! It was also great having some guest musicians with us -- Victoria, Jonathan, Mary & Monica! A number of folks passed along their compliments, including our Mission priest Fr. Steven. Nicely done! Here's the audio & livestream.

Also, welcome back Mr. Joe, and congrats Ms. Anya!

An email went out last week with details for the Parish Mission. If you're able to help with any of the evening sessions, we'll meet at 6:30 PM to run music. Barb P. & Bev took point Monday night; Barb, Victoria, Patti & I are here Tuesday and Bev & I Wednesday. Probably some others too, we'll see!

UPDATE: 04/30: Despite the power outage from yesterday's storm, the Parish Mission is still on for tonight. Please come out if you're able! Joe is bringing some sound & lighting gear.

Our music and cantor schedule for May is ready to go! A few notes:
  • Since we shared Easter Sunday this year, I tried to sprinkle in the Easter tunes we typically sing throughout the month. I also mixed in some more traditional ones just for fun.
  • Our celebration of May Crowning is this weekend (my apologies, I mistakenly had this on the calendar for later in the month). We'll sing a Mary-themed song for Gathering.
  • Note that May 10th is Good Shepherd Sunday / Mother's Day weekend & May 24th is Memorial Day weekend. Let me know if you're out those Saturdays (or any other weekends in May).
  • I have one new song programmed on May 24th -- GC3 #524 - Alleluia No. 1. This could be a contender for a different Easter Gospel Acc., if we'd like to switch at some point.
  • We're taking point on the Ascension Vigil Mass on Wednesday, May 28th @ 7:00 PM. Please join Bev and I if you're able!

Barb H. was in touch last week about the Commendation Song. There's been quite a bit of confusion on scheduling and whether or not families want this done. Father also has some concerns about the text. Moving forward, we'll continue announcing deaths, but will no longer sing the song.

We're back to regular 4:00 PM (not 3:30!) rehearsal this week. As a general reminder, though, please come a bit early if you have anything to set up. That way, we can start right at 4:00 :-).

UPDATE: 05/02: As of this afternoon, the Church is still without power. Mass is on, but we may need to get a bit creative with things. Joe is planning to bring sound equipment, and since it's daytime, lighting hopefully shouldn't be a problem. We also have the option of reciting the Psalm & Acclamation, rather than cantors trying to project.

UPDATE: 05/03: Good news -- the power just came back, so everything should be normal for tonight.

Also, Lisa & I have a concert on Campus Saturday evening (6:30 PM call for a 7:30 show). We'll both need to head out right after Mass; if everyone could help with cleanup, that would be much appreciated!

Finally, huge thanks for dedicating so much time to Music Ministry events this month! Because of the way some things fell, it's been a super busy April. Things should finally start to normalize in May :-).

I think that's it; have a great week!

(All Mass Parts, except the Gospel Acclamation, are from Mass of Remembrance, including the Gloria, Holy, Eucharistic Acclamation 'A' (We Proclaim Your Death), Doxology & Lamb of God)

Out: None (?) Barry, Karen

Entrance:
GC3 #889 - Hail Mary: Gentle Woman (Landry)
Materials (**links removed**))

**We may or may not do the entire song, depending on timing.**

(May Crowning)

Sprinkling/Gloria:
See 'Rite of Sprinkling with Holy Water within Easter Season'

**We'll use the combined Gloria/Sprinkling above. For the parts marked 'All Sing', we'll sing the second half of the refrain only (like this). At the end of the Rite, we'll sing entire Gloria (while Father sprinkles the congregation).**

Responsorial Ps (Cris):
GC3 #042 - Ps 30 - I Will Praise You, Lord (Inwood)
Materials (**links removed**))

Acclamation (Ben):
SS #005 (GC3 #844) - Alleluia! Give the Glory (vs 7) (Canedo)

Preparation:
GC3 #798 - Two Fishermen (Toolan)
Materials (**links removed**))

**Let's take this at the faster tempo we've used the last number of times. Ideally, I'd like to get through all four verses, but we'll see what the timing looks like. Harmony on the refrain would be great!**

(Mass Parts)

Communion:
SS #166 - Worthy is the Lamb (Manalo)
Materials (**links removed**))

**We'll start this as an instrumental, and bring in everyone else after returning from Communion. Including the harmony on the refrain would be great! We'll probably need to repeat verses and/or add another instrumental for time. Let's be careful not to rush the tempo too!**

Closing:
GC3 #761 - God Has Chosen Me (Farrell)
Materials (**links removed**))

**Let's include an interlude between verses and the harmonies, please! We'll sing all four verses.**
