"The Peaceable Kingdom"
1st Sunday of Advent
Nice work last week! We ended Ordinary Time/Year C on a high note. Re-positioning ourselves at the mics also seemed to help with balance. Check out the audio HERE.1st Sunday of Advent
Thanksgiving Eve Mass is back on for this Wednesday, 11/27, at 7 PM (Father opted to 'un-cancel' it). If anyone would like to attend, it looks like this is being held in the Chapel.
Welcome to Advent and Liturgical Year A! Our Advent music (HERE) has been approved with some minor tweaks. Note that the Wreath Blessing will be done before the Gathering song; there's also a different response planned for the Prayers of the Faithful. Finally, Father is "making some changes" to Christmas Eve Children's Mass -- not sure what that means yet (hopefully nothing major at this point), but will pass along further info as I receive it.
Please take a look at Prepare! Prepare!. We started reviewing this last week. As a reminder, cantors are needed for the opening refrain and verses, while the choir will stay on the ostinato refrain. We'll start and end a capella (see the recording below).
If you haven't already, please go over Mass of Joy & Peace (good recordings HERE). The Penitential Rite will be sung beginning next week, and 'We Proclaim Your Death' will be used for the Acclamation.
Would someone be willing to sing the descant on The King Shall Come When Morning Dawns? It would also be great to add the harmonies on Wait for the Lord (new, but very simple) and God Has Chosen Me, as we'll be doing these for the next four weeks.
Please stick around for Christmas rehearsal after Mass. I'd like to focus on Masters in This Hall and God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen. We can look at other pieces if time. Don't forget to work on your parts :-).
Finally, I just wanted to wish everyone a happy, safe Thanksgiving! This group means a great deal to me, and I'm extremely thankful for the chance to be part of it and know all of you. Your talents and dedication allow us to come together every week to make quality music, lead the people in song, learn new things and (hopefully) have fun. A huge thanks for all you do, especially during this very busy time of the year!
UPDATE: 11/30: Jim is out sick; added sheet music for 'Wait for the Lord'.
