33rd Sunday in Ordinary Time
Last Sunday, Father met with representatives of the Music Ministry, Arts & Environment Committee and Faith Formation to plan the Advent season. Music highlights are below:
- Beginning on 11/30, we'll switch to Mass of Joy & Peace; the Penitential Rite will be sung, but no Gloria until Christmas.
- Our 'theme song' for the season will be God Has Chosen Me (Closing). Psalms were picked based on the Readings. All other music will be pulled from the Advent section of the GC. Stay tuned.
- The Christmas Mass schedule is the same as last year. We'll be covering the 4 PM Children's Mass in Agape Hall.
Looking ahead, Father also opted to cancel Thanksgiving Eve Mass on 11/27 due to low attendance. Shouldn't affect our music planning, but a heads up just in case you were going to attend.
As far as Christmas planning, we'll continue rehearsing after Masses, with a big dress rehearsal on 12/22. Bev, Lisa, Ginny, Sam, Joe and I are available (possibly a few others), with Jonathan and Barry tentatively covering guitar. Jim, Ken, Maggie and Brad are out. Bev is looking into instrumental preludes. I'm hoping to have the music plan finalized by the end of this month.
Let Us Be Bread is our Communion song for the next two weeks. Please take a look if unfamiliar (it would be nice to include the descant if possible). Let's also be careful of the rhythm on Be Not Afraid, as this one can be a bit tricky to keep together.
After Mass, I'd like to continue work on choral preludes and get into God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen/We Three Kings (good recordings HERE and HERE). This is primarily a guitar piece, but we can at least start looking at it. Let me know if you'd be interested in soloing or harmonizing.
Jim is out for a Group Therapy gig.
