8th Sunday in Ordinary Time
Nice work last week! We were largely at full staff, and there was some great harmony throughout. Special thanks to the Ken & Maggie for tackling the tricky voice parts on The Lord is Kind and Merciful. Check out the recordings here (not quite everything -- had battery issues). Our music for March has been sent to the Office for approval. The cantor schedule will be ready shortly. Note that due to the repeating Gathering and Closing songs, we won't be doing a common Communion piece this month. Instead, I've tried to pick a series of Communion songs that are Lent-appropriate and/or have Lenten themes. There are also a couple of Psalms that repeat from this month (sorry, just the way it worked out).
We haven't sung the GC arrangement of With the Lord in a very long time, so please look it over if unfamiliar. Father felt that this piece was the best fit for the readings, especially considering the suggested Psalm isn't in either book.
Just a reminder that we have practice after Mass to work on music for Lent/Easter. Besides looking at the music below, I'd like to see if we can come up with some type of rehearsal plan for the season. Please stick around, as we'll start using some of this music as early as next week for Ash Wednesday (03/06) and the 1st Sunday of Lent (03/09).
- Mass of Remembrance (Mass Setting for Lent)
- Merciful God (new Lent Gathering song)
- I Will Rise (Easter Sunday Prelude)
- If time: Who is That Man? (Good Friday Prelude)
- If time: Open the Eyes of My Heart (Easter Sunday Prelude)
UPDATE: 02/27: Our March music has been approved with one change to this week's Psalm.
UPDATE: 02/27: We've been invited to join the OLV Choir in singing the National Anthem for the Harlem Globetrotters game on Friday, 03/08. Details here. Deadline for signups is 03/01.
UPDATE: 02/27: We've been invited to join the 11 AM Choir for Ash Wednesday Mass on 03/06 at 7 PM (program here). Bev is also playing for the 9 AM Mass that morning. If you're available for either of these liturgies, they should be a great way to kick off the Lenten season.
UPDATE: 03/01: Rather than the Mass of Remembrance Kyrie, Father would like to use Hold Us in Your Mercy as our Penitential Rite for Lent.
