30th Sunday in Ordinary Time
Thanks for managing things in my absence last week! I hear Mass went well, with Bev, Jim and Maggie covering instruments and six singers on vocals. Looking forward to being back :-)
We're still in need of a cantor for our new psalm, All the Ends of the Earth. This is a gospel-style tune in cut time. It's probably one of the most fun and upbeat arrangements of Psalm 98 that I've seen. If anyone would like to give it a shot, let me know; otherwise, I'll plan to sing it.
Just a couple of quick reminders: All Saints Day Mass is being celebrated on Wednesday, 10/31 (Halloween), at 7 PM. All Soul's Day Mass is on Friday, 11/02, at 7 PM. Just like last year, we're covering the Mass on 10/31. Rehearsal will be at 6 PM. The tentative program can be found here. Please let me know if you're available to sing/play so we can plan accordingly.
Finally, it's time to begin preliminary planning for Christmas! As you know, we typically cover the 4 PM Children's Mass in the Parish Hall. I'm open to suggestions for preludes, specifically, large group, small group, solo and instrumental pieces. Thus far, beyond our usual staple pieces, I'm considering Marty Haugen's Cherry Tree Carol, Garth Brooks' God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen and James Clemens' Now We Sing of Christmas. Nothing's set in stone at this point, though, so please feel free to message me if you have any thoughts. Stay tuned for details in the coming weeks.
UPDATE: 10/23: Bev suggested Liz Story's Greensleeves, as well as a TBD piano/violin duet, as possible Christmas preludes.

UPDATE: 10/24: The program for Emmanuel's funeral liturgy on 11/03 has been finalized (here). Stay tuned for an email with details.
UPDATE: 10/24: The sound board and mixer have been replaced. The prevailing theory is that the old hardware was overheating due to continuous use (hence the damage to the iPad). Moving forward, we'll need to power up the board/mixer before Masses and shut everything down afterward.
