Songs & Updates for Saturday, January 20, 2024 [updated]

3rd Sunday in Ordinary Time
Image Credit: Mission City Bible Church

Thanks to all who came out last week! Our visiting priest was pretty easy to work with and it was great to 'get the band back together' post-Christmas! Some of my favorites were Jesus, Your Spirit in Us and One Bread, One Body. Check out the audio here

Please welcome back Virginia on piano! Virginia will be covering for Bev this week. Luca will also be joining us on flute, and Fr. Jozef should be back from vacation.

UPDATE: 01/18: Unfortunately, Virginia is sick and won't be able to join us. Frank might need to quarantine as well. I'm looking into coverage, but we may need to 'get creative' on Saturday.

UPDATE: 01/19: So far, none of the Sunday pianists are available (it seems many are attending the MLK concert), but their guitarist, John, can make it! Please welcome John to the group!

We tried introducing a prayer before rehearsal last Saturday. Moving forward, perhaps we could create an informal rotation for this? No pressure, but anyone who'd like to lead the prayer is more than welcome (it doesn't have to be from the 'choir prayers' book!).

A few of you asked about the Lenten Gospel Acclamation from Mass of Glory (the same setting that Alleluia! Give the Glory is from). It doesn't appear that there were any revisions to the text, so this should be safe to use. If it's something we'd be interested in trying, I'm game! Otherwise, we can use the Acclamation out of Mass of Remembrance (or something else). Let me know your thoughts!

For Where Your Treasure Is, let's plan to not sing verse 4 -- it has a completely different melody and we probably won't have time for it anyway. Likewise, we'll only sing the first two verses for City of God (otherwise, this song is pretty long).

We touched on this before, but since we lost several key players in 2023, I'd like to make recruiting a high priority this year. We can start with some general announcements (at the end of Masses, in the Bulletin, Facebook, etc.), but personal invites are best! If you know/see anyone, please do invite them! Our Saturday timeslot is a tough sell, but I'm sure there are people out there!

Looking ahead, we'll kick off rehearsals for Lent/Easter on February 3rd @ 3:00 PM. Please mark your calendars! The rehearsal schedule will be flexible, depending on our needs.

Finally, please let me know if you're available for the following Holy Week liturgies. The details haven't been confirmed yet, but I'm presuming the schedule will be the same (or similar to) last year:
  • March 29th @ 2 PM - Good Friday
  • March 31st @ 8:30 or 10:30 AM (?) - Easter Sunday
Stay warm and have a great week!

(All Mass Parts, except the Gospel Acclamation, are from Mass of Joy & Peace, including the Gloria, Holy, Eucharistic Acclamation 'A' (We Proclaim Your Death), Doxology & Lamb of God)
