Songs & Updates for Saturday, November 2, 2024 [updated]

31st Sunday in Ordinary Time

Thanks for a strong Mass last week! It was great to be fully-staffed again. Special thanks to Maureen for taking a shot at announcements and Joe for helping me with Time & Talent! Here's the audio

During Time & Talent, we had one potential singer sign up! I'll follow up with them this week, and we can go from there. I may do the same with others who have expressed interest recently. Stay tuned.

If anyone would like to join us, Bev & I are covering a couple of special liturgies this week. It would be great to have some additional musicians to split out parts. If not, though, no worries -- I realize the timing may not be ideal!
  • All Saints (Vigil) - Thursday, 10/31 @ 7 PM:
    • Rehearsal @ 6:15 PM
    • Since this was originally Joanne's program, the music is up on the 10:30 page
  • All Souls - Saturday, 11/02 @ 9 AM:
    • Rehearsal @ 8:15 AM
    • The music is in our November plan below.
    • The schedule for regular Saturday Mass will be the same as usual.
Also, Barb P. & Joanne are covering the other All Saints liturgy on Friday, 11/01 @ 9 AM. You're welcome to join them as well!

Our music & cantor schedule for November is ready to go! A few quick notes:
  • I included selections for All Souls & Thanksgiving Eve (which we played last year).
  • Bev is out on 11/09 & 16, so I have emails into Victoria & Virginia about covering.
  • We'll celebrate Christ the King on 11/23, which marks the end of Ordinary Time & Year B.
  • The 1st Sunday of Advent is on 11/30, but I'll hold this for the December plan instead.
UPDATE: 11/01: We discovered Thursday night that the Bose amplifier in the Sanctuary died. That means no sound from the choir, ambo or wireless mics is coming through the big speakers. Paul turned up the amplifier in the Gathering Space & the piano monitor until this can be repaired/replaced.

Don't forget that our Fall Potluck is this Saturday after Mass in The Warehouse. It's not too late to RSVP :-). If you have any food to prep, please come a bit early (so we're not cutting into rehearsal time) and use the Kitchenette. Looking forward to a great little gathering!

I spoke with Amy (our Director of Faith Formation) about the Christmas Pageant. This is tentatively on the board for Saturday, 12/14 from ~2-4 PM. The program will likely be the same as last year. We'll need accompaniment, plus at least 3-4 singers. Please mark your calendars!

Finally, we talked about this last week, but Joanne, Barb P. and I are still sorting out coverage for Christmas Eve/Day. I'll let you know once we've confirmed who's doing what. Stay tuned!

Happy Halloween and have a great week!

(All Mass Parts, except the Gospel Acclamation, are from Storrington Mass, including Holy, Eucharistic Acclamation 'B' (When We Eat This Bread), Doxology & Lamb of God)

Out: Luca

Entrance:
GC3 #757 - Jesus in the Morning (Spiritual)
Materials (**links removed**)

**This is a traditional Spiritual, but not a tune we've done often! We'll sing all five verses (at a good tempo, these will go by quickly). If you're able to add in the harmonies, that would be great!**

(Glory to God)

Responsorial Ps (Ginny):
SS #061 - Ps 27 - The Lord is My Light (Walker)
Materials (**links removed**)

Acclamation (Lisa):
SS #005 (GC3 #844) - Alleluia! Give the Glory (vs 3 or 4) (Canedo)

Preparation:
GC3 #706 - Where Charity and Love Prevail (Westendorf)
Materials (**links removed**)

**We'll do this piece with just a chord for the intro and minimal accompaniment. Let's follow the phrasing in the book (please watch!). Feel free to add harmonies as we go -- there's nothing written, but plenty of room to add parts :-). We'll likely sing all six verses, repeating verse one for time.**

(Mass Parts)

Communion:
SS #204 - Strength for the Journey (Poirtier)
Materials (**links removed**)

**Please make sure you're comfortable with the entrances & rhythms on this one! It would probably make sense to have someone start this one, and everyone else can join in later. We can repeat verses (or add instrumentals) as needed.**

Commendation:
Song of Farewell (Schutte)

Closing:
GC3 #761 - God Has Chosen Me (Farrell)
Materials (**links removed**)

**This will be our usual arrangement, with an interlude between verses. Harmonies would be great!**
