Songs & Updates for Saturday, November 18, 2023 [updated]

33rd Sunday in Ordinary Time

Great job last week! We were a small group with everyone on mics -- it was nice singing in three parts on several pieces! There were some technical issues with the Psalm (no worries & nice recovery!), but the harmonies on I Am the Bread of Life were awesome and Shine, Jesus, Shine was fun to pull out again (Fr. Jozef mentioned being a big fan of this one :-). Thanks to all who came out! Here's the audio

A reminder that our next Christmas rehearsal is at 3 PM on Saturday. It would be great if everyone could be there! That way, we can start pulling together the preludes. We may start looking at regular Mass music too (a draft/working copy of the program can be found here).

Also, here's what the remainder of our Christmas reschedule schedule looks like:
  • Saturday, 11/18 @ 3 PM
  • Saturday, 11/25 @ 3 PM - tentative (Thanksgiving weekend)
  • Saturday, 12/02 @ 3 PM
  • Saturday, 12/09 @ 3 PM - tentative (Cris out)
  • Saturday, 12/16 @ 3 PM
  • Saturday, 12/23 - no rehearsal (Parish Christmas Celebration @ 3 PM)
  • Christmas 'dress rehearsal' - TBD

Please take a look at our Offertory song, The Lord is My Light. We've only sung this once before. The 'clipped' phrasing & different melodies on the verses are especially tricky (check out the recording). Parts would definitely be nice, but making sure we're solid on melody/rhythms is more critical.

For Voice of Christ, this is another tune that we've only done a few times. Please review if it's unfamiliar (all of the verses have different melodies). We may also want to consider having someone start the singing while everyone else goes up to Communion (like Frank did last week).

For With One Voice, don't forget about the clapping during the final refrain (we should have enough singers to make this work). Also, even though it's a bit long, I'm planning to do all four verses.

Looking ahead, the November music plan has been updated with selections for Thanksgiving Eve. We'll also be celebrating Christ the King that Saturday, which marks the end of Ordinary Time & Liturgical Year A. Maggie & Tom may be (re-)joining us.

Father recently shared that on 12/12 @ 5:30 PM, a special Mass will be held for the Feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe. This is a big celebration in some places, but I don't believe we've ever done it here. My understanding is this will be a Spanish-language Mass with a Mariachi band & Mexican food to follow. Stay tuned for details, but it sounds like a fun & unique event!

Finally, if you haven't already, please let me know by Sunday if you're able to sing/play for the Christmas Celebration on 12/16 @ 3 PM and/or Christmas Eve @ 8 PM. I realize it's early, but that'll really help with planning. If I don't hear anything, I'll assume those days/times work :-).

UPDATE: 11/16: Luca will be joining us this week on flute. Welcome back Luca!

That's all for now. Have a great week and see you Saturday!
