Songs & Updates for Saturday, November 4, 2023 [updated]

31st Sunday in Ordinary Time

Thanks for another solid Mass last week! Things flowed quite well with our visiting priest, Fr. Marek, and I appreciate your taking time to look at parts. It was also wonderful having Luca with us again on flute! Check out the audio here

We had a pretty successful first Christmas rehearsal as well (thanks Jake, Lisa & Bev!). Our two a capella preludes are coming together nicely (although with our recent losses, we still need some additional voices!). We'll get into regular Mass music a bit later.

Our music & cantor schedule for November is ready to go. Let me know if you see any issues! December is also (mostly) drafted, pending details on Advent & Christmas. Stay tuned.

If anyone's able to help, we have several special liturgies this week. The programs went out by email (also available on the calendar & 8:30/10:30 pages of the Music Ministry website):

All Saints - Tues., 10/31 @ 7 PM (Vigil) - Cris, Barb P. & Bev
All Saints - Wed., 11/01 @ 9 AM - Barb P., Barb H. & Victoria
All Souls - Thurs., 11/02 @ 7 PM - Barb H., Denise & Joanne

UPDATE: 10/31: The 2nd hymn board has been installed in the Sanctuary behind the presider chairs! The original board has also been moved behind the organ to match. There are separate sets of numbers for each. Please make sure numbers are added to both boards this weekend!

A reminder that due to several absences and a scheduled piano recital, there's no Christmas rehearsal this Saturday. We'll resume next weekend, 11/11. Please keep working on the preludes :-).

Let's welcome Virginia on piano! Frank & Virginia will be taking point in my & Bev's absence. We went over some of the logistics last week, but don't hesitate to reach out if you have any questions (I won't be tied up until closer to 6 PM that night -- dress rehearsal for an SCCS concert).

For the Psalm, keep in mind that this piece is in a 'non-standard' format -- in other words, the verses are sung before the refrain, with the refrain only sung once the first time (not repeated as usual).

We've only done Abundant Life once before (during the recent Season of Creation). Please make sure you're comfortable with the melody. This song may be slightly long for Offertory, so don't be afraid to end if after two verses if needed.

Looking ahead, we're still in need of musicians for the Children's Christmas Celebration on 12/16. Let me know if you can help! I'll forward an email with the details, but the schedule was just confirmed today. The Pageant itself will take place from ~3-4 PM that afternoon, followed by a social & tree decorating party. We would need to step away around 4 PM for regular Mass rehearsal.

Thanks again for running things on Saturday! Happy Halloween and see you in two weeks!
