Songs & Updates for Saturday, August 5, 2023

Transfiguration of the Lord

We were very light on singers last week, but fully-staffed with instrumentalists. I appreciate everyone who was able to come out (and your flexibility with cantor coverage)! Blest Be the Lord was clearly a 'fan favorite' with the congregation :-). Here's the audio

Also, a huge thanks to those who came to Maggie & Tom's sendoff dinner (including family)! Sadly, this week will be Tom's last regular Mass with us, but Maggie will be around for a bit longer.

On a similar note, Rich has moved over to the Sunday 8:30 AM group. He assures me that it's nothing we did; that timeslot just works better for their schedule. Thanks for singing with us, Rich!

Our music & cantor schedule for August is ready to go. Let me know if you see any issues. Note that 08/19 will tentatively be a guitar Mass (Bev may be out).

As we get ready to launch the new website, you may see notifications from Google Drive about changes to file permissions. Please disregard for now -- since our blog and new site will be interlinked, I'm tweaking our shared files to be a little less public. Your access should remain the same, though.

In Ginny's absence, would anyone be interested in announcing songs this week (Psalm, Offertory, Communion & Closing)? If not, no worries; I can take care of this.

Per Tom's request, Canticle of the Sun is our Gathering song. Please be careful about the eighth & sixteenth-note rhythms. Also, don't forget about that long, sustained final note :-).

After the Homily, there will be a marriage vows renewal for a couple celebrating their 50th anniversary. We'll sing the refrain only from We Praise You (if you've sung for Easter Vigil before, this should be a familiar tune). There are splits on the second half of the refrain if anyone's interested.

If you're not familiar with At the Name of Jesus, please take a look. We've done this once before, but ran into some technical issues. Despite how it's written, the melody for all four verses is the same.

Finally, for Shine, Jesus, Shine, a reminder about the slight tempo change between the refrain and verses (the verses are slightly slower). We'll also include the usual a capella ending.

I think that's it! Have a great week!
