Songs & Updates for Saturday, May 6, 2023 [updated]

5th Sunday of Easter

Thanks for another great Mass last week! It was fun taking Easter Alleluia at a faster tempo, and the harmonies on several pieces sounded great! Dcn. Jack also mentioned that he's a fan of the Alleluia we've been using :-). Here's the audio (**link removed**)

Our music and cantor schedule for May is ready to go. Note a few less-common pieces on the board, like I Have Been Anointed and Jesus, Your Spirit in Us. We also have a new choral piece for Pentecost (05/27), Holy Spirit, We're Calling You (more to come on this one).

A reminder that Mass for First Communion is being celebrated this Saturday, 05/06, at 10 AM. If any singers or instrumentalists would like to join Bev & I, let me know!

I Have Been Anointed will be done with voice & percussion only. Please make sure you're comfortable with the melody/parts on the refrain & verse. We'll follow the arrangement in the book (slightly different from the recording), structuring it something like this:

-Percussion intro
-Refrain (all on melody)
-Refrain (add parts)
-Verse (cantor or all -- any takers?)
-Refrain (with parts)

(repeat as needed)

-Percussion outro

Though the Mountains May Fall will likely be another guitar-focused song. One thing to watch is the rhythms on the refrain -- let's try to stick with what's in the book so we're all doing it the same way.

For those who cantor the Alleluia, using the new Commentator podium may be a good alternative to the choir mics (especially since we're a bit maxed out). This seemed to work well for me last week, but either way is fine; just wanted to put that option out there.

UPDATE: 05/03: Note that the 'installation' of new PC & Standing Committee Chairs will take place after the Homily this Saturday & Sunday. There's no music for this.

UPDATE: 05/04: Moving forward, the Office will be including the Entrance song page # & title as part of the Commentator reading. We won't have to worry about announcing this separately anymore.

It's looking like Thurs., 05/25, may be the best date for sound system cleanup. I'll check on Church availability and confirm with everyone later this week. If that date works, we'll have some time to sort out how best to approach this project. Stay tuned!

Finally, looking ahead to June, one change to Masses will be the elimination of printed songsheets (to help reduce costs).  Moving forward, I'll try to provide more detailed music plans to help offset this. More on logistics later, but just wanted to give everyone a heads up for planning purposes.

That's all for now. Have a great week!
