Songs & Updates for Saturday, February 25, 2023 [updated]

By His Wounds, We are Healed
1st Sunday of Lent

Thanks for a nice Baptism liturgy last week! Considering it was our first with Fr. Jozef, everything come together pretty well (we'll likely have a new Baptism program for next time, though). Remember Your Love and Living Water were among my favorites. Check out the audio here.

Also, I appreciate everyone sticking around for our first quarterly potluck of 2023! It was fun hanging out and a good chance to socialize (especially with Father). Let's aim for May for the next one :-).

Welcome to Lent! Mass for Ash Wednesday will be tomorrow, 02/22, at 7 PM. If you're able, please come sing/play (all are invited!). The program went out via email.

Father's Lenten theme is "By His Wounds, We are Healed". This isn't a theme that lends itself to music, but the choirs did choose Tree of Life as a Common Song. Here's our March music & cantor schedule. We'll work ahead on pieces like Make Us Worthy & At the Name of Jesus in the coming weeks.

We're also switching to Mass of Remembrance. Note that Fr. Jozef would like the Penitential Rite sung. Father Charlie led this in the past, so cantors will be needed (psalm format). Any takers? The Gloria won't be done until Easter and we'll use the Lenten Acclamation in place of the Alleluia.

UPDATE: 02/22: The cantor schedule has been updated to include cantors for the Penitential Rite.

For Tree of Life, let's plan to do all the regular verses (1-5), plus the Sunday-specific verse, each week (in this case, verse 7 for the 1st Sunday). If that's too much, we scale it back next week. Including the harmony & Adoramus Te Christe descant would be nice too.

For Merciful God, We'll sing the 'Lent Communion' refrain (the recording below uses 'Lent Gathering' , but the melody is the same). We'll also need at least one or two people on harmony (especially at the beginning of the verses where there's an echo).

One request Fr. Jozef made is to start the Communion song right after the prayer. He said there's no need to wait until the ministers are ready. This way, we can start the instrumental segment sooner and get through more of the song :-).

Finally, we need to nail down a rehearsal schedule for Holy Week. In the past, we've met either before regular rehearsal or after Mass, but neither of these times seems to be ideal. I'd appreciate some input on days/times that might work better. Let's make a final call on this Saturday.

Out: Frank (tentative), Jake

I think that's all for now. See you Saturday!
