3rd Sunday in Ordinary Time

Here's to a great start to 'Chapter 3' at Good Shepherd!

Last week's inaugural Mass with Fr. Jozef went off exceptionally well. We were pretty fully-staffed and only a few minor logistical issues came up. Attendance numbers were high (close to an old 9 AM Mass) and included many who haven't been with us in a while. We received quite a few positive comments on the music, both from our Sunday counterparts & parishioners alike. Thanks so much for coming out and making this a special liturgy! The audio can be found here.

Just to recap -- a few logistics/changes moving forward:
  • Choir Seating: Choir seating is now facing the Altar, rather than angling out toward the congregation. The front row mics have been repositioned (& rewired) accordingly. I've also switched back to directing from behind the piano (the only place with good sightlines). This basically reverts everything to how it was pre-Fr. Charlie. We can tweak positioning as needed.
  • Preview of Readings: At the beginning of Mass, there will be a written welcome & preview of the Readings to read before announcing the Gathering song. This will fall to the cantor/group leader by default, but really anyone in the choir can read this if interested (let me know!).
  • Creed: It looks like Fr. Jozef favors the Nicene Creed, rather than the Apostle's Creed that we've been using up to this point. Both should be in the front cover of GC.
  • Mass Parts: We'll need to be careful about slightly different cues for Mass Parts. It sounds like Fr. Jozef is willing to learn the sung presider parts, but just wasn't familiar with them last week.
  • Commendation Song: The Reader (or Deacon) will now be responsible for sharing any death announcements, while the choir leads everyone in singing the Commendation Song.

For Two Fishermen, let's try to retain that faster tempo that we used the last few times. That'll also help us get through all the verses for Offertory. Harmonies would be great!

We Are One Body will be the Killoren/t4C version, rather than what's in the book. The verses are re-arranged and there are some key changes. Frank has agreed to take point on guitar and the lyrics will be in the program for the congregation. I'll have copies of the music available on Saturday.

Please make sure you're familiar with how City of God will flow (especially during the second half -- the transition into verse three is always a bit tricky). Any takers for the descant?

Finally, we have two pieces for next week that may be worth looking ahead on: GC3 #727 - Come to Me, O Weary Traveler and SS #155 - Lead Us to Your Table. We may touch on these if time.

That's all for now. Have a good one and see you Saturday!
