4th Sunday in Ordinary Time
Nice work last week! We got off to a bit of a late start with practice, but ended up with a fairly large group of singers for this piano/violin Mass. Special thanks to Frances for joining us, and please welcome Brad to the group!
I made a tweak to how our front row mics are being utilized. Rather than using the cantor mic for violin (which carries quite nicely in this space on its own), I set it up as a dedicated vocal mic instead. This will give us a bit more flexibility for singers in the front row.
Our music for February has been sent to the Office for approval. The cantor schedule is also ready to go. Will let you know of any changes.
If you're available Saturday morning, A funeral liturgy is being held at 11 AM for Doug LaPlante's mother, who passed away over the weekend (details here). Bev is playing piano.
Just a quick heads up that the Penitential Rite will be recited (not sung) throughout February. The version we'll use each week will be included in the program.
Please take a look at this week's Psalm if unfamiliar. This piece is in the old book, and we've only done it once before (singers: you may want to print yourself a copy). Likewise, we haven't done Where Two or Three Are Gathered in over a year -- don't forget to review the melody/harmony lines if needed.
The Baptism that was originally planned for 01/19 has been rescheduled for 02/09. There will also be an RCIA Rite of Dismissal that evening, as well as our after-Mass get-together to do some planning for the year. I'd love to be at full staff that Saturday if at all possible. More details to follow.
Finally, in starting to look at music for Easter, one piece I'm considering is Paul Baloche's Open the Eyes of My Heart. We did this song back in 2015, and the lyrics seem like a good fit for the occasion. On a similar note, if you have any thoughts, I'm looking for a choral piece to round out our preludes.
