Feast of the Holy Family
We did it! Christmas Eve Mass was a huge success. From preludes to regular Mass music, everything flowed exceptionally well (with a few minor hiccups :-). We also pulled off a relatively complex a capella piece in a nine-person chamber choir, which was a first. Attendance was standing room only, and we received quite a few compliments on our music. Thanks to all who were able to be there! If you'd like to see how things sounded, the recordings can be found HERE.The tentative music for this Saturday is below. Will let you know of any changes. Also stay tuned for the selections and cantor schedule for January.
Bev and Maggie have an instrumental arrangement of It Came Upon a Midnight Clear planned as a prelude; likewise, Jim will be doing his version of Go Tell it on the Mountain as a Meditation. This will wrap up our series of Christmas preludes that were planned in late November.
We haven't done Awake! Awake, and Greet the New Morn and The Aye Carol since this time last year. Please look these over if unfamiliar. Don't forget that on verse one of Awake, we'll sing "...for now he is born" rather than "...for soon he is born".
As we go into our last Saturday Mass of 2018, just wanted to say a huge thank you for your hard work and dedication to our Ministry. We've seen our fair share of changes and challenges over the past year, but are also steadily growing as an ensemble. I'm truly grateful for the chance to work with such a talented group of musicians. If you have thoughts on what you'd like to see us do in 2019 (goals, improvements, music suggestions, etc.), feel free to let me know. I may organize a get-together sometime in January to discuss. Here's to another great year of music-making at Good Shepherd!
Finally, New Year's Day Mass is being celebrated on January 1st at 9 AM. I believe Bev is playing piano and Barb P. is cantoring. Feel free to come join in the singing.
If I don't see you, have a happy, safe New Year!
UPDATE: 12/29: Folks, I'm not feeling well, so probably won't make it this afternoon. Please let Father know. I'm putting Maggie in command. Feel free to email/call/text with any questions. Thanks!
