Songs & Updates for Saturday, December 15, 2018

3rd Sunday of Advent
Special thanks to Ginny, Maggie, Ken, Frances, Ben and Joe for a nice a capella Mass last week! It wasn't originally planned as such, but not having piano or guitar was oddly appropriate given we're in the midst of Advent. Looking forward to getting back to normal this week, though :-).

For Prepare! Prepare!, we experimented with multiple cantors on the verses. This seemed to work pretty well and helped to break things up a bit. Again, if you'd like to take a verse, let me know.

Please look at the Psalm, With Joy You Shall Draw Water, if unfamiliar. We touched on this briefly during practice last week. We'll be singing Refrain II. For those sticking with melody, you may want to use a regular (non-choir) book, as this has moving harmony lines that are a bit hard to follow.

We've done O Come, Divine Messiah! in parts before, but it's been a while. If you have a chance to review the harmonies, that would be great. It's on the board for Closing next Saturday as well.

Finally, just a reminder of the rehearsal schedule for the remainder of the month. This is along the lines of last year's schedule, and should give us plenty of time to work out the bugs.
  • Saturday, 12/15 - Dinner/Rehearsal after Mass (~6:45-8:45 PM)
  • Saturday, 12/22 - Dress Rehearsal #1 - Parish Hall (~6:45-8:45 PM)
  • Sunday, 12/23 - Dress Rehearsal #2 - Parish Hall (2-4 PM)
  • Monday, 12/24 - Christmas Eve Youth Mass @ 4 PM - report time 2:30 PM 
I'll put out a more detailed plan for this Saturday later in the week, but let's have a bite to eat right after Mass (don't forget to sign up if you haven't already) and then continue working on Christmas music. This will probably be one of our bigger practices since some folks have been out the past few weeks. It would also be a good opportunity to discuss Christmas Eve logistics. Once the Christmas program has been finalized, I'll pass that along as well.
