1st Sunday of Advent
Thanks for another solid Mass last week! With the icy conditions, we were a pretty small group, but everything came together fairly well. During practice before/after Mass, Bev, Lisa, Maggie, Ken and I touched on Mass of Joy & Peace and started putting together Sing We Now of Christmas, one of our Christmas Eve preludes.

It's the official start of the Christmas season! Father and I met yesterday (Monday) to plan the music for Advent. These selections will be used across all three Masses (with a few slight variations). The music can be found here (Christmas Eve planning will be finalized closer to the end of December).
We'll be using Mass of Joy & Peace throughout the season. There will be no 'Gloria' until Christmas Eve. The 'Penitential Rite' will be sung beginning on the 2nd Sunday; Our Acclamation will be 'We Proclaim Your Death' (Acclamation "A").
Also note several repeating songs, including a new piece for Gathering: GC3 #398 - Prepare! Prepare!. Please take a look at this one before Saturday. It's an upbeat, gospel-style song with an ostinato refrain and cantored verses. Should be quite a bit of fun to sing. Let me know if you'd like to give the verses a try :-)
Other repeating songs include My Soul in Stillness Waits, Soon and Very Soon and O Come, Divine Messiah. Additionally, two of the Psalms (God Has Done Great Things for Us and Lord, Make Us Turn to You) were pulled from the old GC, as they're no longer in the current edition.
Finally, Bev and Maggie have piano/violin preludes planned for 12/01, 12/15 and 12/29. We'll likely have a guitar prelude on 12/08 (perhaps Jim's Go Tell it On the Mountain?) and a large group piece on 12/22 (Jonathan's Each Winter as the Year Grows Older).
As far as Christmas Eve, the Mass schedule will be the same as last year. There will be two Youth Masses at 4 PM and two regular Masses at 6:30 PM. We'll be covering the 4 PM Mass in the Parish Hall.

For those involved with Sing We Now of Christmas, practice tracks are now up on the website (here). Some of the parts are a bit wonky in places, so hope these help.
A reminder that we have practice after Mass (~6:45-8:00 PM) to continue working on Christmas preludes. With several folks out, we'll likely focus on some of the non-choral pieces such as God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen and Cherry Tree Carol.
Lisa and Ken are out this week; Bev will be out next Saturday, 12/08.
