Songs & Updates for Saturday, March 10, 2018

This Saturday is the 4th Sunday of Lent.
Despite a rather eventful rehearsal, our music came together quite well last week (check it out here). Father Baker was our visiting priest, and was a pleasure to work with as always. We were unable to get into the Sacristy to turn on lights/equipment until right before Mass, though. As a voice-only piece, Make Us Worthy sounded pretty good, although it's definitely more effective when backed by piano. Mass of Remembrance isn't exactly ideal for guitar-only accompaniment, but we didn't run into any major issues either.

As always, I appreciate everyone bearing with me. Special thanks to those who stepped up to make sure things got done. If I was a bit short with any of you, my apologies -- we were running low on time, and I was getting pulled in quite a few different directions.

The cantor schedule for the month is ready to go. If you see any issues, please shoot me a message.

Barb let me know of a former Parish musician who's willing to sub on piano as needed. It was too short-notice for coverage last weekend, but definitely good to know for future reference.

It sounds like Father Charlie will be out again on Saturday. Let's plan to handle Mass Parts, etc. the same way as last week.

We have two new songs later this month: SS #135 - River of Glory, and SS #058 - My God, My God. The former will be used for Closing on 03/17, and the latter for Palm Sunday (03/24). Note that the Psalm is not the familiar version out of the GC; it's a different arrangement that Eva suggested last year. This could be a powerful piece if we do it right; just be aware that the verses are a bit tricky.

Holy Week is right around the corner. As far as I know, we're covering the 2 PM Good Friday (03/30) and 9 AM Easter Sunday (04/01) Liturgies (will confirm). Please let me know your availability so we can plan accordingly. This especially goes for Good Friday -- we typically have a pretty small group due to it being in the middle of a work/school day.

As far as rehearsals, let's plan to stick around after Mass on Palm Sunday, 03/24. Report time for Good Friday will likely be 12:30 PM; report time for Easter Sunday will likely be 7:45 AM (Parish Hall). Stay tuned for details.

Finally, just a reminder that Jim, Joe and Maggie (?) will be out on 03/17 due to back-to-back gigs.

Update: 03/07: the Holy Week schedule has been confirmed. Please see Barb's note here.
