Songs & Updates for Saturday, February 17, 2018

Welcome to our new website! Putting together a new homepage has been on my projects list for quite a while now. I'm happy to report that after making some major design changes last week, the site you see now came together rather quickly. Please feel free to poke around and let me know of any problems. Bear in mind, though, that some elements are still a work-in-progress. The old homepage will remain online indefinitely, although all content has been moved over to the new site.

This Saturday is the 1st Sunday of Lent.

We had a pretty solid Baptism last week. There were a few minor issues, but considering everything that was going on, nothing serious. It was fun to do two Killoren pieces (Hosanna, Glory and Living Water) in one sitting; also, sustaining our Communion song for over eight minutes was probably a new record :-)

Our music for February has been approved with no changes. I'm hoping to begin picking music for March in the next week or so.

Barb's group is covering the 7 PM Ash Wednesday Mass. Please feel free to join them -- it's always a beautiful liturgy, and from a music standpoint, good practice for Saturday. Also, if you're available earlier in the day, musicians are still needed for the 9 AM Mass.

We have a rehearsal this Friday, February 16th, to go through Mass of Remembrance and pull together Make Us Worthy. Let's plan to meet at 7 PM in the Worship Space. We'll wrap up by 8:30 PM. In the interim, don't forget to learn/work on your parts. If you borrowed sheet music, please bring that as well (I only have six copies at the moment).

Update: 02/17: if you need to work on 'Make Us Worthy', Bev & I will be available at 4 PM today, 02/17, to look at voice parts/verses as needed. Thanks!

As far as Mass of Remembrance, note that we'll be using both the Penitential Rite (verses cantored by Father) and Lenten Gospel Acclamation (verse 1 only) throughout the Season. Neither of these are in GC, so the lyrics will be printed in the program. My recommendation would be to use the black booklet for all Mass Parts -- that way, we're not switching back and forth.

Finally, just a general reminder that when at all possible, please be on time for rehearsals. We really do need that full hour to work through programs, and we've been losing quite a bit of time in recent weeks. As always, I appreciate everyone's willingness to donate your time and talent to our Ministry; I just want to make sure we're able to do our best work and avoid rushed rehearsals. Thanks!

Jim and Joe are (tentatively) out this week.
