This Saturday is the 2nd Sunday of Lent.
Special thanks to Lisa and Maggie for helping out with Ash Wednesday Mass! With the three of us in attendance, 5:30 was well-represented.
We ran into a few challenges on Saturday, but considering all the new material, it overall turned out well. Besides, we have four more weeks to work out the kinks :-)
One of the biggest issues that cropped up was tempo. We have more instrumentalists than the other groups, so it's critical that we watch and listen to each other. This is especially important when it comes to some of our more rhythmically-challenging repertoire. In order to avoid confusion, only one person should be setting (and maintaining) the tempo for a given song. I know this point has been raised before, but its worth reiterating.
It was suggested that instrumentalists get together a bit early this week, say 4:15 PM, to work out some of these bugs. If you could make it, that would be great! I'm normally at the Church by 4 PM to prep, so anytime after that is fine. More on this later.
It also appears that the piano is slightly out-of-tune (no doubt because of all the wonky weather lately...). Instrumentalists may want to tune to the piano, rather than each other, so we're at least out-of-tune together.
For the most part, we nailed the entrances and cues for Storrington Mass. The recordings from last week are below if you'd like to see what needs a bit of tweaking.
The problems we were experiencing with the sound system appear to have been resolved. Sounds like the master volume was turned down.
The new Mass Parts page is now live. It can be found here.
Finally, thanks again for all the time and effort you've put into prepping for the Lenten season! It was a lot to pull together in a relatively short space of time, and I think we're on the right track.
