This Saturday is the 1st Sunday of Lent.
Mass last week was pretty solid. There were a few minor issues here and there, but nothing serious. Special thanks to Eva for the piano coverage. I'd also like to officially welcome Emiyare to the group on bass!
Father wasn't a huge fan of us using Bread of Life for Communion. He noted that it doesn't have a repeating refrain, and folks weren't really singing. I might reserve this tune for 'meditation-only' use moving forward. Despite this, it was a fun song to pull out again, and probably one of our strongest of the evening. Check it out here.
There also appeared to be an issue with the sound system -- the sensitivity (gain) on the mics seemed to be way down across the board. If there's time (and this is still an issue), we may want to investigate over the weekend.
The music for March was sent to the Office last week and is pending approval. Will let you know if there are any changes.
A few folks have asked about Ash Wednesday Mass (7 PM). My understanding is Barb's group is covering, but they can always use more singers. This would also be a great opportunity to sing through Storrington Mass before we have to lead it on Saturday. If I find out any details about the program, will pass them along.
We have quite a bit to cover, so I'd definitely suggest arriving a bit early (4:00-4:15 PM) on Saturday. Beyond regular Mass music, we have Storrington Mass, a new Closing song and an RCIA Rite of
A reminder that Come to the Lord and The Cross of Jesus will be our common Gathering and Closing songs for the next five weeks.
If you'd be interested in cantoring the Psalm, let me know. We haven't done On Eagle's Wings in quite a while, so please look this over if unfamiliar. For Remember you Love, keep in mind that we'll start this off pretty slowly, but build it up/increase the tempo after the first verse. We'll wrap it up with an a capella refrain.
For The Cross of Jesus, the last four bars (interlude) should work as an intro. The recording below is from our Lent rehearsal a few weeks ago. Not the best quality, but hopefully it gives you a sense of how this'll flow.
UPDATE: 03/01: the new Mass Settings page is now live. It can be found here.
UPDATE: 03/03: the RCIA Rite of Dismissal is actually a full-fledged Rite of Sending this time. It'll follow the Homily.
