This Saturday is the 4th Sunday in Ordinary Time.
Thanks for another very strong Mass last week!
We had a gentleman approach us afterward -- he made it a point to say how he really enjoys the 5:30 Mass, and gets so much more out of the liturgy because of the music :-)
We also have a young man who's interested in joining us on bass, but also plays a few other instruments as well. He's starting to check out the music, and will hopefully be joining us in the near future.
A meeting to wrap up Advent/Christmas and plan Lent/Easter was held last week. We'll get into more details about music at a follow-up meeting tomorrow (Wednesday), but here are a few highlights:
- For Christmas this year (2017), we've once again tweaked the Mass schedule. The two 4 PM Children's Masses will remain the same, but the 6 PM and 8 PM Liturgies will be consolidated into one 7 PM Mass. These two Masses are less well-attended, so this should help to reduce the strain on ministers and musicians.
- As it stands now, we have the usual coverage schedule for Holy Week. Our group will be covering the 2 PM Good Friday service, as well as one of the Easter Sunday Masses (likely 9 AM). I know the timing of the former is a bit tricky, but I'd love to have a full compliment of musicians if folks are able to break away.
I may start experimenting with using one of the pocket-sized wireless receivers during Mass (thanks Joe for the idea). These have a direct link to the sound system, and should help mitigate issues with not being able to hear over the piano.
We have a Baptism, so please note the usual changes to the program: the Gathering song will be the Gloria, and a Sprinkling Rite has been added after the Homily.
Per Father Charlie, since Advent/Christmas is behind us, we'll no longer be doing the sung Penitential Rite.
Nice job last week on the Communion song, I Receive the Living God. For a first run, there weren't any major issues. Special thanks to Eva for taking point.
Something we did a bit inconsistently was add a pause between the end of the verse and the beginning of the refrain. Like Eva mentioned, this feels like a natural place to pause, so let's try to do that consistently this week.
Eva and Maggie are out this week.
