Songs & Updates for Saturday, December 17, 2016

This Saturday is the 4th Sunday of Advent.
Special thanks to Eva and Tom for covering instruments last week! We ended up switching out the Psalm for one that was more piano-friendly; there were a few challenges here and there with entrances and Mass Parts, but nothing serious. Of all the songs we did, I think the Psalm and 'Each Winter' were probably the highlights.

The Advent Penance Service will be this evening (Tuesday), 12/13, at 7 PM. Only the Gathering and Closing song ('Canticle of the Sun', split three-and-three) will be done live; the remainder of the music will be recorded. An accompanist and a few singers are needed (Joanne and Barb H. are unable to be there). I'd be happy to sing, but there's a decent chance my family won't make it due to the weather.

The Parish Tree Decorating party is being held this Saturday, 12/17, at 10:30 AM (not the change in start time). Musicians are needed to sing/play Christmas songs during the event. Will pass along further details if I get any.

Father Charlie let us know that he'd like to hold off on singing the Penitential Rite until Christmas. Until then, it'll be spoken like it has the past few weeks.

This will be our last week of doing 'God of All People' and 'He Came Down' as common Offertory and Gathering songs. I am hoping to use 'He Came Down' as our first prelude for Christmas Eve, though.

The Parish Hall has been reserved on Friday, 12/23, from 6:00-9:00 PM for our Christmas Eve dress rehearsal. More details to follow, but I'd like to get underway by 6:30 PM, and wrap no later than 8:45 PM. If you're planning to sing/play on 12/24, please attend so we can finalize the plan and run the program.

Speaking of Christmas Eve, our proposed program has been sent to the Office for approval. I'm not anticipating any changes, but will let you know if anything crops up. Lisa has agreed to take point on the 'Silent Night' / 'Night of Silence' medley for Communion. We still need to sort out how 'O Holy Night' will be handled, though. If anyone would be interested in singing this, let me know. The same goes for the Psalm, 'All the Ends of the Earth'.

I will not be at Mass this week. If you need me for anything, feel free to email or call; otherwise, I'll leave you guys to it!

UPDATE: 12/14: Father Charlie would like both 4 PM Masses on Christmas Eve to be Children's Masses. I did ask him to reconsider given the short-notice, but he wouldn't budge. Mass will follow a slightly different format with a few elements removed and several more added. Further details went out via email.
