This Saturday is the 27th Sunday in Ordinary Time.
Mass last week went pretty well. The only real issue we had was some confusion over how to end the Offertory song, 'I Will Choose Christ'. It doesn't seem to work particularly well for Offertory (the key changes make it difficult to end the piece early), so I'll try to refrain from using it for that in the future.
Several months ago, Ginny and I got together to organize the choir cabinet. While we largely wrapped up the cabinet in one sitting, we never got around to finishing sorting the sheet music in the drawer below our section of the cabinet. Ginny took a bunch of it home the weekend before last, and now it's all in labeled folders for future use. We seem to have lost a considerable amount of our older material during the renovations, but most of our more recent pieces are there.
I've finished selecting the music for October and sent it to the Office earlier this week for approval. What I've picked for this week is listed below, and I'll let you know if anything changes.
I'm pretty sure we haven't done our Gathering song, 'We Are God's Work of Art' in several years (perhaps not since we cut a CD back in 2010?). Please look it over if unfamiliar.
Our Psalm this week is 'Blest Are Those Who Love You'. Please let me know if you'd be interested in cantoring it. Note that we'll be using Refrain II.
UPDATE (9/30): Jaclyn is home for the weekend and volunteered to cover the Psalm.
It seems that several people are going to be out next Saturday, 10/10. What I'd like to propose is that those of us who are planning to be there get together after mass this week. With summer (mostly) behind us, I'd like to get back to practicing, and this seems like a good opportunity to start. Let me know if you'd available to do that.
Finally, I'm making a few tweaks to the website in preparation for a possible design overhaul. Please bear with me if you run into any usability issues, and stay tuned for details.
UPDATE (10/2): I received the following note from Barb today -- please let the Office know if you'd be willing/able to help. It would be great to have at least one 5:30 person on this project.
"...and on another music-related subject, the office is looking for a volunteer(s) from the choir to go through a file cabinet to pull out any music from Bob Killoren to save. Everything left will be put in the Gathering Space for any musician who wants to take it - we'll have the cabinet out for 2 weeks. Anything left over will be recycled."
