Songs & Updates for Saturday, December 13, 2014

This Saturday is the Third Sunday of Advent.
Thanks to everyone who was at mass last week! We ended up having quite a bit of new(-ish) material to pull together, so I appreciate you guys bearing with us in getting through all that.

Jonathan and I met before mass to go over the Penitential Rite, which we used for the first time, and review parts for 'Comfort, Comfort, O My People'. We also continued discussing the plan for mass preludes in the new year.

After mass, I directed rehearsal until about 8 PM with Ginny, Lisa K., Jim and Maggie. We continued working on the parts for 'Lo, How a Rose' and started putting together 'Each Winter', which will closely follow the Haugen recording, and 'Creator of the Stars at Night'.

We also worked on 'Holy is His Name', which we'll sing together as our Psalm this week, and discussed changing the Psalm selected for Christmas Eve to one other than 'All the Ends of the Earth' (perhaps one of the versions of 'Today is Born a Savior').

Finally, we came up with a plan for 'Silent Night' / 'Night of Silence'.
  • Written intro for 'Night of 'Night of Silence'
  • Verse one of 'Night of Silence' (all in unison)
  • Verse two of 'Night of Silence' w/ verse one of 'Silent Night' on top
  • Verse three of 'Night of Silence' w/ verse two of 'Silent Night' on top
  • Verse three of 'Silent Night' with the melody of 'Night of Silence' played
  • Written ending

Just a quick reminder that after much discussion last week, we're covering the 6 PM Parish Hall mass on Christmas Eve, not the previously-announced 4 PM. Likely, we'll have a dress rehearsal before then, but I haven't nailed down the details yet.

Jim is out this week.

There will be practice after mass from 6:30-8:00 PM. Again, with Christmas right around the corner, it's important that as many folks as possible attend practice, so please plan to stick around. More details to follow, but the tentative plan thus far is:
  • Learn next week's Psalm, GC 82, 'Forever I Will Sing' (this is a new piece)
  • Continue working on the parts for 'Lo, How a Rose E'er Blooming'
  • Learn the parts for 'Cherry Tree Carol' (the music came in on Monday)
  • Continue working on 'Each Winter as the Year Grows Older'
  • Review Christmas Eve mass music
