This Saturday is the Solemnity of Saints Peter & Paul, and the 12th Sunday of Ordinary Time.
Mass seemed to go exceptionally well last week with a very strong instrument section and a fair number of singers. Nice job to all involved!
After mass, Jonathan, Maggie, Lisa K., Karina and I stuck around to practice. We had some pie (thanks Maggie!) and than ran some of the music for this week.
Lisa K. and I also worked the Psalm, which is probably one of the most challenging pieces in the GC. We will continue working on this individually and will hopefully have a good grip on it by the weekend.
We also focused our efforts on one of several pieces we'll be doing for the new building dedication during the Parish Picnic. The piece, 'With a Shepherd's Care', is an unusual tune featuring parts with staggered entrances and with different lines for each part, making it a bit tricky to rehearse. Keep in mind that 'Shepherd's Care' is totally new to all of us, as it was selected at the last planning meeting based solely on the very appropriate lyrics.
After some brief sectionals, we were able to run the piece with about one person on each part (alto had two), and it was sounding pretty good for a first run. We'll continue to work on this in the coming weeks before combining forces with the other choirs to put it all together (the dedication will be a combined choirs event). We'll also do it several times at mass over the next few weeks to familiarize the song with the people.
The other piece we'll be doing is 'Sing of the Lord's Goodness'. We wrapped up practice around 8:15.
Just a quick note that this week we switch back to Mass of Creation. I'll be posting updated materials for that on the Mass of Creation page if anyone would like to look it over (please check back later).
Additionally, if anyone is interested in attending and/or participating in the funeral mass for Joanne's mother Margaret (who passed away last week), it's being held on Saturday at 11 AM. I'd be happy to pass along the details on request.
Jim, Barry, Chip, Ginny, and Karina are out this week.
There will be practice after mass from ~7-8 PM. If anyone would like to bring light refreshments, feel free. Also, please let me know if you're planning to be at mass/practice for planning purposes -- thanks!
UPDATE: page number for 'Shepherd's Care' listed wrong. Corrected. Added recordings for GC 47 and 654.
UPDATE 2: I learned today (6/26) that there's a Baptism on Saturday. The program has been revised to accommodate that. Also, for those waiting on this, I haven't had a chance to update the Mass of Creation section of the webpage with new material.
