This Saturday is the 33rd Sunday in Ordinary Time.
We had a visiting priest last Saturday in Father Charlie's absence -- he requested we play a patriotic song due to Veteran's Day, so we created a sped-up arrangement of 'America the Beautiful' as our warm-up song.
Additionally, Father Charlie unexpectedly switched us from using Eucharistic Acclamation 'When We Eat This Bread' to 'Save Us, Savior of the World'. We'll be using 'Save Us' for the remainder of Ordinary Time (this week and next) before switching to Mass of Joy & Peace in December.
In a pleasant surprise, Jaclyn joined us and covered the Alleluia. She'll be helping us out when she's free on weekends and for Christmas Eve.
At practice, we went over our music for this week and worked on some of the pieces for Advent and Christmas. Most notably, we worked on the voice parts for 'Silent Night', interspersed with 'Night of Silence' (Lisa K.). See Jonathan's last email for details on all Advent/Christmas music through the end of the year.
Karina and Barry are both out this week. Next Saturday (11/23), is the Feast of Christ the King. The majority of us are out (including Karina, Ginny, Jonathan, and I), so if you're able to make it, I'm sure Jim would really appreciate the help.
We are planning to practice after mass this week (the Frike's volunteered to bring dinner).
Here are the songs for this Saturday:
Gathering:
SS 121 - In the Day of the Lord
Psalm (Lisa K.):
GC 95 - All the Ends of the Earth (Refrain I, Psalm 95)
Alleluia (need one):
Preparation:
SS 174 - Come, Lord Jesus
(originally listed as GC 603 - How Can I Keep from Singing)
Communion:
GC 608 - Be Not Afraid
Closing:
GC 770 - Soon and Very Soon
Really nice work last Saturday, guys!
