16th Sunday in Ordinary Time

Thanks for a great large-group Mass! It's rare to have nearly everyone here in the middle of Summer! Open My Eyes was a good fit for Offertory (with some creative stretching!); Unless a Grain of Wheat was fun to pull out again too, and They'll Know We Are Christians was probably our strongest yet.

Father Joshi was also easy to work with. It was especially interesting to hear the Doxology sung in his native tongue! Here's the audio.

A reminder that Fr. Jozef and Dcn. Jack returned yesterday, so we should be back to the normal Mass routine. Thanks for all of the help with managing things the past couple of Saturdays -- everything seemed to flow quite well!

Good Shepherd turned 37 today -- happy birthday us! If you're able, please do join us for the Parish Picnic on Sunday @ 1 PM. If you haven't already RSVP'd, here's the signup. Still lots of slots open for food and to volunteer :-). The planning committee (myself and a few others) will set up after Mass on Saturday. If you'd like to help, feel free to stick around (we can take care of choir cleanup first).

I had a chance to get a jump-start on August music, so you may see that posted early. Other than Assumption (08/15), I'm not seeing much in the way of special happenings that month. We'll probably hold off on finalizing a cantor schedule until the end of July, though. That way, everyone has a chance to confirm schedules.

Finally, while we're on the topic, you may see a new document template for music selections. The one we started using a few years ago just isn't working well -- it can be difficult to read (as some of you mentioned) and the formatting doesn't always translate well. Hopefully more on that soon!

I think that's it. Stay cool, and have a great week!

(All Mass Parts, except the Gospel Acclamation, are from Mass of Creation, including the Gloria, Holy, Eucharistic Acclamation 'B' (When We Eat This Bread), Doxology & Lamb of God)

Out: Karen, Maureen, Ally

Entrance:
GC3 #604 - All the Ends of the Earth (Dufford)

**Let's plan for all three verses. At a good tempo, these will go by fast!**

(Glory to God)

Responsorial Ps (Jake):
SS #077 - Ps 103 - The Lord is Kind and Merciful (Modlin)

**If anyone would like to take a shot at the echo/harmony on the refrain, that would be great! There are two parts, but even including only the upper line would work nicely :-). We'll just need to make sure the timing is correct for the entrances.**

Acclamation (Ben):
SS #021 (Mass of a Joyful Heart) (vs 1) (Canedo)

Preparation:
GC3 #738 - The Reign of God (Dufner)

**I don't believe we've sung this as a group before, so please take a look! We touched on this last week, but it's an Irish tune that was adapted into a Spiritual (I know, an unusual combination!). Here's a good recording for the parts (wait for the a capella section).**

(Mass Parts)

Communion:
SS #164 (GC3 #838) - Come to the Feast (Hurd)

**We've only sung this a handful of times before. The tune is in both books, but the accompaniment is different (we can see which works best). And if you'd like to look at parts, there's separate sheet music in the folder :-). We'll sing the English text.

Since the Spanish feel makes this a bit tricky to keep together, we may spend some extra time on this.**

Closing:
K #16 - Mission Song: We Are the People (Killoren)

**If you're not familiar, this is one of Dcn. Bob's pieces. Since it's the Parish's birthday, it seemed appropriate! We have loose copies of the music, but it's also in the new spiral Killoren books in the cabinet. There are piano & guitar scores too. We'll plan to sing the whole thing.**
