Songs & Updates for Saturday, February 28, 2026

2nd Sunday of Lent

Thanks for a great start to Lent! I appreciate everyone coming early to review Mass Parts, and your putting up with all of the tempo tweaks :-). It was also great seeing a Rite of Sending for our catechumens & candidates -- it's been a while since we've had one at a Saturday Mass! Here's the audio.

Paul has been doing some work on the sound system. He took care of several issues with the monitor, which was accidentally knocked out-of-commission. The super-sensitive volume knobs also needed to be re-adjusted. Beyond that, Paul is proceeding with some other system upgrades, per Fr. Jozef's request.

If interested, the recorded livestream from last weekend's Essential Spirituality workshop is posted. Joe & I took a shot at live-streaming from Agape Hall, something we haven't done before. We plan to do this again for the remaining two sessions in March (probably with some audio/video improvements).

Our March music is nearly ready! Stay tuned for a cantor schedule. I still need to meet with Fr. Jozef about Holy Week logistics, so April selections are a work-in-progress. Hopefully more on that soon!

For my Easter Vigil folks, could we please meet at 3:30 PM on Saturday? I'd like to take a look at Christ, Yesterday and Today and The Light of Christ, two of the new pieces for that liturgy.

For the former, let's try splitting the parts as follows (we can always tweak this later):
  • Soprano: Lisa & Ginny
  • Alto: Bev, Ally & Cris
  • Baritone: Jake & Frank
Moving forward, let's tentatively plan to meet at 3:30 throughout the season. That gives us about six weeks to work through Good Friday and Easter Vigil music. We'll hit a couple of pieces each week, before coming together for larger rehearsal(s) closer to that weekend. Sound like a plan?

Finally, Bev is away on March 14th, so I'm looking into coverage. If anyone else is out as well, please let me know for planning.

That's all for now; see you Saturday!

(All Mass Parts, except the Lenten Acclamation, are from Mass of Remembrance, including the Penitential, Holy, Eucharistic Acclamation 'A' (We Proclaim Your Death), Doxology & Lamb of God)

Out: Karen, Frank

Entrance:
SS #196 (GC3 #651) - Open My Eyes (Manibusan)

**We'll sing all four verses (verse four is at the bottom of the second page -- words only; no music). The Bridge will be after verses two & three. Let's also make sure we're singing the rhythm on the Bridge the same way :-).**

Penitential Rite (Ben):
Mass of Remembrance

Responsorial Ps (Lisa):
GC3 #044 - Ps 33 - Let Your Mercy Be on Us (Ref I) (Haugen)

**If anyone's feeling adventurous, there are some lovely splits on the verses :-).**

Acclamation (Jake):
SS #006 - Praise and Honor (Mass of Glory) (2nd ABC)

**If it's helpful, here's a good sample recording of this week's verse. After the refrain, there's a full four beats of rest before the verse starts (longer than last week).**

Preparation:
SS #100 - At the Name of Jesus (Walker)

**I'm thinking we'll get through 2-3 verses. Keep in mind that verses 1 & 3 and 2 & 4 have different melodies, so they're paired together. Also, during the final refrain, the fermata on 'Lord' comes into play. We'll slow down the tempo going into the final ending.**

(Mass Parts)

Communion:
GC3 #489 - Merciful God (‘Lent Communion’ Refrain) (Alonso)

**Let's begin with an instrumental, before adding in voices. Harmonies would be great! Also, on the verses, don't forget that melody/soprano takes the upper line, while alto, tenor & bass have the echo.**

Closing:
GC3 #493 - Change Our Hearts (Cooney)

**We'll sing at least two verses, but preferably, all three. Including the descant would be great!**
