1st Sunday of Lent
Thanks for a strong finish to Ordinary Time! The harmonies were lovely, and it was a good call to spend some extra time on Come, Worship the Lord :-). Here's the audio.
Welcome to Lent! A reminder that Masses for Ash Wednesday are tomorrow (February 18th) @ 9 AM & 7 PM. Barb P. & Bev have the morning liturgy; Joanne & Denise have evening. Please join us if you're able! Music is posted to the website (here and here).
Saturday is the first session of Good Shepherd's Essential Spirituality Workshop. I don't know if the visiting priest/speaker is staying for Mass, but a heads up just in case!
On Saturday, let's plan to meet at 3:30 PM. That will give us time to review music for the season:
- Mass of Remembrance:
- Penitential Rite (not in GC)
- Holy, Holy, Holy (GC3 #384)
- We Proclaim Your Death (not in GC)
- Doxology/Amen (GC3 #386)
- Lamb of God (GC3 #390)
- Mass of Glory:
- SS #006 - Praise & Honor (Mass of Glory)
- Verses - '1st ABC', '2nd ABC', '3rd A', '4th A', '5th A'
- Easter Vigil:
- Christ, Yesterday and Today (Weston Priory)
- The Light of Christ (Haugen)
For Vigil, the two pieces above (as well as the Exsultet and Litany of Saints) make up the bulk of the new music. We started looking at Christ, Yesterday and Today last week (stay tuned for an email with details). As time permits, we'll work through the others. Fair warning that the Exsultet is by far the most challenging piece -- it's about seven minutes long and cantored a capella. More on that very shortly :-).
Finally, I'm planning to meet with Father Jozef (after this week!) to go through Good Friday and Vigil logistics. After that, we can finalize the programs and a rehearsal plan. Stay tuned.
Enjoy the nicer weather, and have a great week!
(All Mass Parts, except the Lenten Acclamation, are from Mass of Remembrance, including the Penitential, Holy, Eucharistic Acclamation 'A' (We Proclaim Your Death), Doxology & Lamb of God)
Out: Karen, Lisa
Entrance:
GC3 #478 - Return to God (Haugen)
Materials (audio & sheet music)
**The refrain will be sung twice the first time and between verses (in the past, we've dropped the repeat). We'll sing all three verses. The melodies on verses 1 & 2 are slightly different; verse 3 is longer (split across three lines) and has a completely different melody. Including the harmonies would be great!**
Penitential Rite (Frank):
Mass of Remembrance (Haugen)
Responsorial Ps (Jake):
SS #066 - Ps 51 - Be Merciful, O Lord (Angrisano)
Materials (audio & sheet music)
Acclamation (Cris):
SS #006 - Praise and Honor (Mass of Glory) (1st ABC) (Canedo/Hurd)
**Throughout Lent, we'll sing five different verses, each of which is specific to the Readings. The rhythms are all different (including tricky timing on entrances), so please take a look ahead of time!**
OCIA Dismissal:
SS #211 - Thy Word is a Lamp (Ref x2)
Preparation:
GC3 #484 - Hosea (Norbet)
Materials (audio & sheet music)
**We'll take this at a fairly relaxed tempo (not rushed!). Since it's pretty short, let's be prepared to repeat verses or add an instrumental.**
Holy, Holy, Holy:
Mass of Remembrance (Haugen)
Eucharistic Acclamation:
Mass of Remembrance (We Proclaim Your Death) (Haugen)
Doxology/Amen:
Mass of Remembrance (Haugen)
Mass of Remembrance (Haugen)
Lamb of God:
Mass of Remembrance (Haugen)
Communion:
GC3 #961 - Remember Your Love (Balhoff)
Materials (audio & sheet music)
**This is another one that tends to speed up -- let's be mindful of tempo! We'll start with an instrumental or cantor; everyone else can join in after returning from Communion. As usual, the final refrain will be a capella.**
Closing:
SS #101 - Beyond the Days (Manalo)
Materials (audio & sheet music)
**Since it's long, we'll probably sing 2-3 verses. If interested, there are additional harmonies in the folder :-).**
