Songs & Updates for Saturday, May 17, 2025 [updated]

5th Sunday of Easter

Thanks for another strong Mass last week! It was fun pulling out some less commonly-used shepherd songs (and a few Easter tunes too) for the occasion! Here's the audio.

Last week, the Music Ministry leads chatted about possibly buying new book stands for singers (the 10:30 folks are looking for ways to not hold heavy books all the time). Joanne found a book stand that may be a good option. Since our group has been using regular stands for this for a long time, it probably wouldn't be a big change. Just a heads up, though, in case any new equipment shows up!

Father Jozef, Dcn. Jack & others are away on the Greece pilgrimage this week, so we'll have a visiting priest. I'll try to catch up with them before Mass about logistics; otherwise, we'll play things by ear.

Since we didn't get to this last Saturday, I'd like to look at a new piece for May 24th, Alleluia No. 1 (GC3 #524). There's a lovely descant on the refrain and parts on the verses that would be great to include! Practice tracks are in the folder.

A reminder that we're celebrating Feast of the Ascension on Wednesday, May 28th @ 7:00 PM & Thursday, May 29th @ 9:00 AM. An email with details will go to the entire Ministry this week or next.

Finally, Summer is right around the corner! For our new folks, we'll continue meeting as normal, but often with reduced numbers and less-involved music. It's always a tricky time for coverage -- please try to keep everyone in-the-loop on vacations, etc. so that we can plan accordingly.

Stay dry, and have a great week!

(All Mass Parts, except the Gospel Acclamation, are from Mass of Remembrance, including the Gloria, Holy, Eucharistic Acclamation 'A' (We Proclaim Your Death), Doxology & Lamb of God)

Out: Ben, Maureen, Frank, Karen (tentative)

Entrance:
SS #121 - In the Day of the Lord (vs 1-3) (Ridge)
Materials (**links removed**))

**We'll sing verses 1-3 only for time. Let's include the descant on the refrain too.**

(Glory to God -- no Sprinkling)

Responsorial Ps (Frank Cris):
SS #091 - Ps 145 - I Will Lift Up Your Name (Angrisano/Tomaszek)
Materials (**links removed**))

Acclamation (Lisa):
SS #005 (GC3 #844) - Alleluia! Give the Glory (vs 7) (Canedo)

Preparation:
GC3 #706 - Where Charity and Love Prevail (Westendorf)
Materials (**links removed**))

**Let's sing this with 'light' accompaniment (the intro will just be a chord). Since it's melody-only, improv harmonies would be great! Please watch for tempo & cues too -- this tune is unmetered (no time signature), so everything will be a bit variable. We'll probably need to repeat verses for time.**

(Mass Parts)

Communion:
GC3 #532 - O Sons and Daughters (Traditional)
Materials (**links removed**))

**Let's start with a shorter instrumental, before having someone start the singing. Then everyone can join in. I'd suggest using the harmonies on the refrain from 'Easter Alleluia'; otherwise, everything is melody-only. We'll keep this at an upbeat tempo so that it doesn't drag.**

Closing:
GC3 #734 - Bring Forth the Kingdom (Haugen)
Materials (**links removed**))

**Any takers to sing the cantor parts on the verses? If not, we can do these as a group. Harmonies on the refrain would be great!**
