Songs & Updates for Saturday, August 3, 2024

18th Sunday in Ordinary Time
Image Source: St. John's Lutheran Church

Thanks for another strong Mass last week! It was nice not having technical issues this time around:-). The harmonies sounded lovely, especially several of those descants (thanks, Lisa!). We also took a look at the Storrington Mass Gloria, which is coming along pretty well. Here's the audio

More sound system updates! Paul replaced the piano mic, which was showing signs of failure. He's also working on the piano monitor, cleaning up wiring and getting the Church's acoustic guitar back in playable condition. Paul also determined that recording directly from the sound system via RF receiver may not be viable after all (it's picking up too much noise from the board). Stay tuned, though!

Our music and cantor schedule for August is ready! Let me know if you see any issues. A few notes:
  • The theme for most Sundays this month is "I am the bread of life", so we'll sing different versions of Psalm 34 (Taste and See). Two of these pieces are actual Psalms; the remaining two are regular songs that just use the text.
  • Masses for Feast of the Assumption will be celebrated on Wednesday, August 14th @ 7 PM (Vigil) and Thursday, August 15th @ 9 AM. Stay tuned for updates on the music & coverage.
  • Bev is out two Saturdays this month -- August 3rd and August 24th. I believe we're good for this weekend, but still need to sort out the 24th (the music plan may also be tweaked).
  •  We'll be (re-)introducing Storrington Mass on August 17th. It'll be used for the rest of Ordinary Time, which ends in November (we'll switch back to Joy & Peace for Advent).
  • Father Jozef & Dcn. Jack are out August 24/25th; we'll have a visiting priest that weekend.

Please welcome back Virginia on piano! Let's be ready to start rehearsal right at 4:00 so there's time to run through everything (both music selections and Mass Parts).

Finally, please plan to meet at 3:30 PM on August 10th. We'll use the time to work on Storrington Mass. Depending on where things stand, we may do the same on the 17th.

I think that's it. See you Saturday!

(All Mass Parts, except the Gospel Acclamation, are from Mass of Creation, including Holy, Eucharistic Acclamation 'B' (When We Eat This Bread), Doxology & Lamb of God)

Out: Luca, Bev, Lisa, Maureen

Mass of Creation (Haugen)
Materials (**links removed**)

Responsorial Ps (Cris & Ginny):
SS #062 - Ps 34 - Taste and See (Hurd)

SS #150 - Bread of Life (Fisher)
Materials (**links removed**)

**Let's make sure to start this one as soon as possible! Because of the key change, we'll need to sing all three verses. Keeping the tempo up (but not too fast!) will help too**

Materials (**links removed**)

Eucharistic Acclamation:
Mass of Creation ('When We Eat This Bread') (Haugen)

**Would someone like to get this started while the rest of us go up for Communion? Also, we'll likely do this as a soprano/tenor split, rather than soprano/tenor/alto (Lisa's out)**

Commendation:
